The public hearing was closed at 6:15 p.m. Scott Kucera called the regular meeting of the Crime Control and Prevention District to order at 6:15 p.m. A motion was made by Mr. Ibarra and second by Mrs. Saldana to approve the minutes as printed. Motion carried, 9/0. An overview of this budget year was given and explained that this budget included 50 police officers, the graffiti coordinator, and the Sr. Staff Assistant. The budget for the Crime Control and Prevention Distirct would be submitted to city council on June 10,2008 for a public hearing. A motion was made by Mr.Ibarra and second by Mrs. Saldana to approve the 2008/2009 budget. Motion carried, 9/0. Cindy O'Brien gave a financial overview and explained that the budget was on track. The board discussed the proposed one time expenditure purchases. Mr. Kucera proposed that the board purchase more Tasers instead of the purchase of a graffiti truck. Several other members agreed. Mrs.Saldana also expressed her concern that the drug fund should pick up the cost for the K-9 dog for next fiscal year instead of the Crime Control and Prevention District. A motion was made by Mrs. Saldana and second by Mr. Ibarra to purchase$167,000 in Tasers. Motion carried,9/0. A motion was made by Mr.Hermis and second by Mrs.Garcia to approve the drug canine and the associated training equaling$11,000. Motion carried,9/0. Purchase of the graffiti truck and miscellaneous equipment failed due to the lack of motion or second. It was discussed that the graffiti eradication project was going well and in full swing. Valerie Villarreal explained that the Juvenile Assessment Center was going strong and no new news to report. Chief Bung explained that the Pawn Show Detail has been a very effective program. No information was given on the Directed Patrol Program due to Lt. Frese being out on sick leave. There were no public comments and the meeting adjourned at 7:22 p.m. SCANNED
