Cindy O'Brien reported that the sales tax is 6% greater than budgeted, and she also explained
that expenditures are less than 92% into the year.
Sgt Been Teed reported that the graffiti program is a very busy program. He reported the
following, since August 2007:
• 20,291 reports of graffiti
• 75% cleaned by truck
Sgt Teed reported that the following were done by volunteer groups:
• 103 sites
• 158 gallons of paint
Sgt. Teed explained that on the enforcement side of graffiti, they did a "knowck and talk" on
major graffiti players to gather intelligence. He reported that he was pleased with the District
Attorney's office and the response to the cases filed, however, the Juvenile Judge is much more
lenient with sentences. Sgt. Teed explained that a new program with probation requires parents
to supervise juveniles at selected sites to clean up, rather than using police officers to supervise.
He also reported that we are doing a good job of keeping down the graffiti in public areas. He
explained that linear progression shows reports are up as well as arrests. More businesses are
stepping up and cleaning the graffiti off their business. Committee members made a request to
know the average time from when graffiti is reported to when it was cleaned. Sgt. Teed reported
that 56% of the cases were juvenile offenders.
Valarie Villarreal reported that the Juvenile Assessment Center will not be losing 2 case
managers in the next fiscal year.
The board requested the overtime report be sent again.
Committee members directed staff to get bids on another graffiti truck and bring to next months
meeting as an action item.
Meeting was adjourned at 3:30 p.m. SCANNED
