If the bids were higher, then the item would need to come back to the board for approval of additional funds. Commander Schauer explained that 2 groups of San Antonio kids tagged Corpus Christi. He explained that police officers were able to catch the vandals and prosecute them. The Corpus Christi Police Department and the MIS department have come together to purchase security cameras to be placed at the skate park and other highly vandalized areas. Valarie Villarreal explained to the board that they have been very busy with cases. Mrs. Saldana asked Valarie Villarreal why the center would be closing. Mrs. Villarreal stated that in February of 2008, the budgeting process began and they were asked to present possible budgetary reductions. When asked by the Board why there were not told, Mrs. Villarreal said she was told not to tell Mrs. Villarreal expressed the JAC is funded 60% by the Crime Control and 40% by Parks and Rec. She explained that in 3 years, only 125 night time curfew violations have been made by the Police Department; therefore they made recommendations to close the JAC at night because of the few juveniles brought in. She went on to say that the JAC met with the police department and explained the proposal. Chief Smith stated he did not recall the conversation. Board members expressed concern that there was a lack of communication between the JAC and the Crime Control District; the board should have been advised of any curtailments in the JAC operations. Members called for a special meeting on October 22 to have an explanation regarding the decision. They also felt that if the police department, JAC and Parks and Recreation staff could meet prior to the meeting and resolve any issues, then the meeting would not be necessary. Pat Eldridge explained that the next Crime Control quarterly presentation to City Council would take place on November 18th. There were no public comments. Meeting was adjourned at 3:30 p.m. SCANNED
