HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Crime Control And Prevention District - 08/19/2009 �✓ V MINUTES CRIME CONTROL AND PREVENTION DISTRICT �+ WEDNESDAY,AUGUST 19,2009 RECEIVED ED CITY HALL,6ru FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM Members Present FEB 1 O ?CIO Estela Garcia Susie Luna Saldana Cecil Johnson David Sauceda CITY SECRETARY'S OFFICE Randy Maldonado Michael Staff The meeting was called to order at 2:35 p.m. A motion was made by Mr. Johnson and second by Mrs. Garcia. Motion carried,6/0. Olga Plomarity reported on the financials. She explained that the revenue came in at budget,expenditures are at 90.54%. Eddie Salazar with the Juvenile Assessment Center reported on the number of youth taken into the JAC. Cindy O'Brien explained that the committee report was not completed yet. Stacie Talbert stated that the JAC is still under Parks and Rec. and that the judges had been shuffled. She explained that Judge King went to be magistrate at the City Detention Center. The board expressed concern about Judge King being moved. Mrs. Saldana will contact John Marez who is chair of Municipal Court Judge committee for more information. Deanna McQueen reported on the graffiti at Cole Park and reported that the graffiti truck cleaned it up as well as the Park and Rec. guys. She stated that the cameras will hopefully show an offender. Ms. McQueen also stated that they are also partnering with the Nueces County Juvenile Probation office Make Amends program. Eddie Salazar reviewed his request for a part time UA case manager at 18 hours a week. Mr. Salazar stated that they cannot make the public restroom a private one at the Wilson building. He explained that they must have a controlled bathroom for UA, which translates to an added person to verify the UA. David Sauceda asked if a request had been made to the City to add a person; Stacie responded with a no. Mrs. Garcia asked if this was a recurring cost and it was explained to her that it was. In the meantime, they will be utilizing the existing case managers to collect the UA's. The board asked if Judge Rivera could come to next meeting to explain further. Mrs. Garcia made a motion and Mr. Staff second to table the item to the next meeting. Pat Eldridge polled the board for their votes as follows: The foregoing motion was passed and approved with the following vote: Garcia, Johnson, Maldonado, Saldana, Sauceda, Staff voting"Aye". Rudy Garza reported on the new sales tax effective date. The utility companies wanted time to administer the tax, new effective date will be January 1, 2010. The resolution can not get adopted until January of 2010. Senior Officer Donnie Moore presented tasers that are fired from a shotgun for use by tactical teams. Officer Moore requested $6,898 which would purchase 20 tasers. Mrs. Garcia asked if the tasers that the crime control purchased are not effective. Officer Moore said they are effective, but these are long range for SWAT. Chief will bring back list of recommendations for purchases in September and October. The Crime Control quarterly update to Council will be presented on August 25, 2009. The next visit to JAC will be in October. The meeting was adjourned at 3:35 p.m. SCANNED
