HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Crime Control And Prevention District - 11/18/2009 V MINUTES CRIME CONTROL AND PREVENTION DISTRICT WEDNESDAY,NOVEMBER 18, 2009 CITY HALL, 6TH FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM RECEIVED Members Present Estela Garcia Jesse Molina FEB 1 0 ?CIO Gail Gleimer Loeb Susie Luna Saldana Cecil Johnson David Sauceda CITY SECRETARY'S OFFICE Randy Maldonado Mike Staff The meeting was called to order by Susie Luna Saldana at 2:33 p.m. The Graffiti Removal Truck demonstration was presented in the city hall parking lot. A motion was made by Mrs. Garcia and second by Mr. Sauceda to approve the minutes of October 21, 2009 as printed. Motion carried, 6/0 with Mrs. Gleimer Loeb and Mr. Staff abstaining. Chief Riggs spoke about the reorganization within the police department and explained that he welcomes input from the crime control board. He explained that more officers and more women were needed in law enforcement. Constance Sanchez reported on the financials and explained that the revenues are 17.82% below what was budgeted. Expenditures are within budget. Eddie Houlihan talked about the sales tax projections for the City and Crime Control. He stated that the Crime Control fund balance is at $2.4 million and is absorbing the sales tax deficit. Eddie Salazar gave a Juvenile Assessment Center chart showing the number of curfew violators for 2009. Mr. Salazar introduced a new proposed program. and-rnquested-equipment. Members offered support for the program,but felt that the Center could use funds from the existing budget instead of purchasing new equipment. Cindy O'Brien stated that the committee review report is not ready. An update will be given at the January meeting. Commander Schauer explained that Sheriff Kaelin used inmates to clean 200 of the graffti sites. John Sendejar advised that MIS was working on placing the final cameras and they would be operating 24/7. 14 cameras will be placed at several locations around town that are constantly being targeted by violators. Mr. Sendejar explained that a future demonstration to the Crime Control would be scheduled. Pat Eldridge explained that the new sales tax base would not go into effect until July 1, 2010 and the board would be holidng the public hearing at the January 20 regular meeting, at 6:00 pm. No new business to report. Members agreed that the December Crime Control Meeting should be cancelled due to the holidays. A motion was made by Mr. Sauceda and second by Mrs. Gleimer Loeb to adjourn the meeting at 3:54 p.m. Motion carried, 8/0. SCANNED
