I. Call to Order
lino Vasquez called the meeting to order at 3:07 pm.
II. Roll Call
Board members present Billy Ashcroft, Steven Deases, Don Fretwell,Jesse Gatewood, Jared
Merdes, Bhaskar Patel,Michael Riley,and Tino Vasquez
Board members absent: David Schury and William K. Pitchford
Staff present: David Lewis, Deborah Brown, Brian Narvaez, and Russ Arney
Ill. Address Absences from January 27,2011,Regular Meeting(Correction:July 28 meeting was
cancelled)
Mr. Gatewood made a motion to excuse absences from the January 11.2011;motion was seconded by
Mr. Pretwell. The motion carried 8-0.
IV. Approval of Minutes:
December 16,2010,Special Meeting
January 27,2011,Regular Meeting
Mr. Vasquez made rt motion to approve the minutes of the December 16, 2010, meeting; the motion
was seconded by Mr. Bhaskar Patel. The motion carried 8-0.
Mr.Vasquez made a motion to approve the minutes of the January 11. 2011, regular meeting with
noted correction to roll call (reflecting Jared Mercies present at said meeting); the motion was
seconded by Jesse Gatewood. The motion carried 8-0.
V. Review, Discuss, and Act on Proposed Amendments to the National Fire Protection Association's
National Electrical Code,2008
Review and Discuss Proposed Amendments to the international Codes Council 2009 International
Codes
After review, discussion and careful consideration of the proposed amendments to the National Fire
Protection Association's Electrical Code, 2008, hoard members recommended to City staff to
incorporate the existing amendments found in the Administrative provision of Chapter 14,Technical
Construction Codes. Mr. Merdes made a motion for said recommendation; the motion was seconded
by Mr. Gatewood. The motion carried 8-0.
VI. Review,Discuss, and Act on the Recommendation to Submit to City Council Proposed Amendments
to the National Fire Protection Association's National Electrical Code,2008
Mr. Jared Mertes made a motion to submit a recommendation to City Council on proposed
amendments reflecting the incorporation of the electrical code amendments currently found in the
Administative provision of Chapter 14, Technical Construction Codes. The motion was seconded by
Mr. Bhaskar Patel. The motion carried 8-0.

VII. Review, Discuss, and Act on the Recommendation to Submit to City Council Adoption of the
National Fire Protection Association's National Electrical Code,2008
Mr. Ashcroft made a motion to submit a recommendation. to City Council for the adoption of the
National Fire Protection Association's National Electrical Code, 2008; the motion was seconded by
Mr. Vasquez, The motion carried 8-0.
VIII. Present and Discuss the Green Building Codes in Alignment with the City's Bold Future Initiative
Russ Arney presented the Going Green with the International Residential Code and the 2009 I-Codes
and Green Building books to hoard members. He informed the board that the City of Corpus Christi
would like to move in the direction of incorporating the codes into the technical construction codes as
part of the Bold Future Initiative. He asked board members to review the codes provided and be
prepared to discuss in a future meeting.

Mr. Army reported that the Department has taken note from internal reports that the permits are
holding steady. He added that the Department is currently reorganizing stiff.
X. Public Comments
Board members may not deliberate or make a decision on any matter presented at this time. The Open
Meetings Act limits Board response to only two options: 1) a statement of specific factual
information given in response to an inquiry; or 2) a recitation of existing policy in response to the
inquiry. Any deliberation of or decision about the subject shall be limited to a proposal to place the
subject on the agenda for a subsequent meeting.
Mr. Ashcroft commented on a weekend event in which efficiency toilets were distributed. He
highlighted that the event was very well organized.
XI. Identify items to be placed on next agenda
The topic identified for a future meeting is the green building codes.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:05 p.m.
