Regular Meeting

Meeting was called to order at 3:15 p.m.
11. Roll Call

Staff present: David Lewis, Russ Arney, Elsa Martinez
III. Address Absences from September 22, 2011, Regular Meeting
Steven Deases made a motion to excuse absences from September 22; the motion was seconded
by Bhasker Patel. Motion carried 6 -0.
IV. Approval of Minutes: September 22, 2011, Regular Meeting
Jared Merdes made a motion to approve the September 22, 2011 minutes with noted changes; the
motion was seconded by Steven Deases. The motion carried 6 -0.
V. Recognition of Officer Exiting Service of Electrical Advisory Board (Tino Vasquez)
David Lewis presented a recognition plaque to Tino Vasquez for his time dedicated to serving the
Corpus Christi Community as a board member. Board members expressed their appreciation to Mr.
Vasquez.
VI. Discuss and Act as Appropriate on Re- alignment of Officers
Board members nominated and appointed Michael Riley as Chairman and Jared Merdes as Co- Chair.
The motion carried 6 -0.
VII. Review, Discuss, and Act on Candidates' Resumes for Board Vacancy and Provide Recommendation
for Submission to City Council to Fill Vacancy [ Section (14 -225B) (2B)]
A. Master Electrician
Upon review of applications received from Jonathan Mike Barlow (unable to determine which
capacity he made application for), Shawn Bodine (Engineer), Kevin Martinez (Master Electrician),
and William K. Kramer, Jr. (not connected to the electrical industry), the board took the following
action:
Mr. Schury made a motion to recommend to City Council to appoint Kevin Martinez to the board
vacancy for master electrician (formerly occupied by Tino Vasquez); the motion was seconded by Mr.
Merdes. The motion carried 6 -0.
VIII. Discussion of the Green Building Codes in Alignment with the City's Bold Future Initiative
Mr. Draper informed that
Mr. Arney informed the board that this item was placed on the agenda for discussion. He
commented that the topic is still in preliminary stage. Board members engaged in a brief
discussion on materials they have reviewed and are familiar with. Board members agree with
City staff's efforts on integrating green building codes with adopted codes.

B.. Staffing
Mr. Arney shared department is fully staffed and staff is working on bringing new staff up to date
on training. He commented on permits being at 3100 -3200, same place as last year.
X. Public Comments
➢ Board members may not deliberate or make a decision on any matter presented at this time.
➢ The Open Meetings Act limits Board response to only two options:
1. a statement of specific factual information given in response to an inquiry; or
2. a recitation of existing policy in response to the inquiry.
➢ Any deliberation of or decision about the subject shall be limited to a proposal to place the
subject on the agenda for a future meeting.
No one addressed the board during open forum.

No items identified for future discussion.
