MINUTES
I. Call to Order
Meeting was called to order at 3:35 p.in.
11. Roll Call
Board Members Present: Jesse Gatewood, Michael Riley, Kevin L. Martinez, Bhaskar Patel,
Billy Ashcraft and Jared Merdes.
Board Members Absent.- William Kevin Pitchford, Steven Deases, .Don Fretwell and David
Schurry
Staff Present.-John Speights, David Lewis and Yvette Francis
III..,�Approval of Absences: February 23,2012,Regular Meeting
Jesse Gatewood made a motion to excuse absences from February 23, 20.12,for Kevin Pitchford
and Don Fretwell, the motion was seconded by Billy Ashcraft. Motion carried 6-0.
IV.,, proval of Minutes: February 23,2012, Regular Meeting
Mr. Patel made a motion to approve the minutes for February 23, 2012 with the following
changes; the attendance needs to reflect that Jesse Gatewood was in attendance and the motion
was seconded by Mr. Merdes. The motion carried 6-0.
V. Discussion and possible action regarding an amendment to Chapter 14 of the Code of Ordinances
pertaining to the authority of the board and the frequency of meetings.
Mr. Riley asked for a synopsis of the proposed amendment, in which Mrs. Francis responded,
that the amendment would change the requirements of the board meetings to a quarterly basis.
Mr. Francis also explained that the wording of the language would allow the majority of the
board to call a special meeting and not just the chair. Mr. Francis explained that the powers of
the board wouldn't change. Mr. Lewis added that the strikethroughs reference text that is being
deleted and any underlined text is something that is being added.
Mr. Patel wanted further clarification in regards to board members calling for a special meeting
instead of the chairman. Mrs. Francis clarified that a majority of the Board Members could call
for a special meeting on behalf of the board in the event that there is an issue that needs to he
brought in front of the board. Mrs. Francis also explained that the special called meeting could
be held on any day and any time at the board's request. Mr. Ashcraft and Mr. Patel discussed the
option of meeting days other than Friday. Mr. Francis explained that this offers some room for
hoards members to attend meeting, especially the board members that find meeting on Thursday
difficult.
Mr. Merdes said he is okay with the quarterly meetings since there really isn't much taken to the
board. The only time the board really needs to meet on a monthly basis is when we are looking at
adopting codes.
A motion to approve the amendment was made by Mr. Riley, and the motion was second by Mr.
Gatewood; the motion carried 6-0

Mr. Lewis explained that Bruce Crosby isno longer with the City ofCorpus
Christi, and that 6e had taken uo inspectors position in Am/in. We are currently

since Mr. Crosby has left inspections have mo//aDonbehind.
Mr. Merdes inquired as to when we would be posting the electrical inspectors
position. Mr. Riley wanted/o know how many electrical inspectors n'e had with
the vacancy. Mr. Lewis stated that have three inspectors and another inspector
that can perform inspection onunux needed basis.
