ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES SEPTEMBER 16, 2004

CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Kyle Budd declared a quorum and called the meeting to order at 3:08 p.m.
ROLL CALL
The first item of business was roll call. Joe Hernandez, John Homer, and Martin Adrian
were absent.
EXCUSED ABSENCES
There were none at this time.
APPROVAL OR CORRECTION OF MINUTES—July 15,2004
A motion was made by Robert Conolly and seconded by Miguel Carranco to accept the
minutes as written. The motion carried.

LATEST INFORMATION ON STATE LICENSING-
By: Alonzo Garza, Plans Examiner Coordinator for David Lewis
• Complaint forms against Electricians are now available online
• David Lewis plans to attend a meeting in Austin, Texas and will have information
available upon his return

• David Lewis is investigating a few things to see if it is a viable alternative for the City
to continue issuing a local license. This would basically mimic the State Exam.
• Maintaining the Master of Records contractor information in the Ordinance for
individuals who wish to maintain a local license
• Insurance requirements will also be included in the Electrical Ordinance
• Draft will be available at a later date

• During the last Electrical exam, we only had three (3) applicants. We have to have at
least twenty (20) applicants testing in order to break even on the proctoring cost.
• The exam was cancelled for the last quarter.
• We may go to once a year testing for the electrical exams.
AGENDA ITEMS
Discussion and possible action on Mid Year Ordinance Amendments

• Trying to get a final draft of the Ordinance to Council in October.
• Got a request to adopt the International Performance Code, International Property
Maintenance Code, and now there are changes to the International Plumbing Code
QUESTIONS ASKED BY BOARD MEMBERS
What is the possibility for getting Corpus Christi a testing site for Electrical examinations?
Response: The Sylvan Learning Center is the local testing center and the exam would be
taken on a computer.
Are they going to recognize a Municipal License?
Response: That is what they mean when they say the license issued under this chapter would
be the state License will recognize with the Municipalities License to strictly work with

Technical Issues
• Alonzo is working on online permits
• Anyone without plan review requirements will be able to pull permits online
• City's MIS Department has already bought a portion of the software
• Program should be launched in January
• Excess revenue from last Fiscal Year was used to purchase the software
Sealing connections for Swimming pools
• Building Officials in Florida are not taking calls due to the Hurricanes
• Hopes to have sealing connections input by October
FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS
• Swimming pool bonding sealant
