Staff Present: Nina M. Sisley, M.D., Roger Barker and Larry Jones 14,,d

D.W. Haven, Chair, called the meeting to order at 2:10 p.m. The minutes of the November 14, 2000
meeting were approved as written.
Attendance Review: Dr. Sisley went overthe attendance sheet with the board members. Everyone
is in good standing with their attendance.
Environmental & Consumer Health Protection (E&CHP) Directors Report: Given by Larry
Jones. Larry indicted that they currently have 4 sanitarians and are waiting to hire 1 more for a total
of 5 sanitarians. There are 5 public health inspector/sanitarians also.
Program: Peter Davidson, Marina Superintendent, gave a presentation on the proposed seafood sales
ordinance. Mr. Davidison went over Section 5 of the proposed ordinance with the board members.
He indicated that this proposed seafood ordinance would create seafood market on the boardwalk that
would benefit the tourists of the city. He also mentioned that the city of Corpus Christi is the only
city that allows the sale of shrimp off the back of their shrimp boats. The Food Service Advisory
Board moved not to accept the recommended proposed seafood ordinance. The advisory board felt
that it made safe food practices worse not better because the only part of the current food
establishment that was amended is Chapter 12 Section 17-1(c)(4).
Audience Participation: Several shrimpers from the community took turns in voicing their views
and opinions regarding the proposed.seafood ordinance.
New Business: Tom Watson would like to have restaurants post their inspection scores for the public
to view. Larry Jones indicated that this information is available to the public at their request from the
E&CH program. He also mentioned that it is not required that restaurants post their inspection scores.
The posting of these scores could serve as a positive approach to reward the restaurant owners who
work hard in maintaining their businesses. Mr. Haven suggested that the E&CH Program issue a
certificate to the restaurant owner for a good rating. Larry indicated that once the new software is
installed that this could be done. The board members all agreed to'discuss this issue further at the
next board meeting.

Christi—Nueces County Public Health District, 1702 Horne Road, Administration Conference Room.
