board moved to excuse the absences of Suzanne Gilliam & D.W. Haven from the July 17, 2001
meeting. All members are in good standing.
E&CHP Report: Larry Jones, E&CH Manager went over the food protection activity report for the
months of July and August with the board members. Inspections are now listed by demerits.
Program: Larry Jones spoke to the board regarding "Standardization in Food Service". Larry told
the board that he spent 3 days in McAllen with a TDH representative. Handouts on the food
establishment standardization report were passed out to all board members for their review. Larry
indicated that by implementing the new inspection guidelines it would raise the standards of all our
E&CH personnel.
New Business: Larry Jones informed the board that the Health Department has requested to raise
food permit fees by 10% which will provide a Public Health, Inspector position for the E&CH
Program. This new position will be addressing the smoking issues and concerns of the public in
restaurants. Tom Watson made a motion contingent that the fee increases go back to the Health
Department and not the General Fund so that the Inspector position will be funded from these monies.
After City Hall has reviewed the proposed fee increase, it will then come back to the Food Service
Advisory Board for their review and recommendation to City Council.
Old Business: Larry Jones spoke to the board regarding issuing restaurants a certificate for superior
