Haven, Chair, Gabriel Hernandez, Carlos Moreno, 4) William Schroeder,Tom Watson Members Absent: Suzanne Gilliam a Staff Present: Nina M. Sisley,M.D.,Jo Ann Dominguez,Larry Jones, and Danielle Converse 1A Guest: Dr. Wang D.W. Haven, Chair, called the meeting to order at 2:10 p.m. The minutes of the January 15, 2002 meeting were approved as written. Attendance Review: Dr. Sisley advised the Committee that all members were present at the previous meeting and that all members were in good standing. Appointment terms are expiring in June for D. W. Haven, Chair, and Bill Schroeder. Both members stated they wished to be reappointed for another three-year term. Larry Jones introduced Danielle Converse, Sanitarian. E&CHP Report: Larry Jones,Environmental&Consumer Health Protection Manager,went over the food protection activity report for the months of January and February 2002. Food manager permit licenses increased over the previous year and are currently within the projected range. Regular inspection of food service establishments decreased from the previous year. Discussion: The Board discussed unsanitary personal hygiene habits of some restaurant employees that may represent a violation of food handling practices,which may not have been addressed by the establishment's manager/owner. Dr. Sisley stated that a newsletter could be issued 2 times a year that would alert managers/owners to watch for employee unsanitary personal habits. Program: Robert Ard, Chairman of Hospitality Management for the Del Mar College School of Restaurant Management, gave a very informative presentation on Hospitality Restaurant Management. The program is the first in the United States for junior colleges. Old Business: None. New Business: Larry Jones discussed two regulation changes in food handling programs introduced by the Texas Public Health Association. House Bill 251, Chapter 437,requires one certified food manager at food preparation sites. Chapter 438 changed the state test, which will be valid for 5 years rather than 3 years. A score of 74 would have to be met in order to pass the test. On May 1,the Texas Restaurant Association will have a practice test on-line.Dee Haven stated that permit fees will need to be increased,if the 3-year refresher course is deleted.Even though the state will require a state test every 5 years,cities can still require the 3-year refresher course. Next Meeting: Mr. Tim Cosner, food executive for Circle K, will present a program on the food services Circle K provides at their stores. The next meeting will be held Tuesday, May 21, 2002 at 2:00 p.m.in the Administration Conference Room at the Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District, 1702 Horne `•• Road. Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 2:47 p.m.
