HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Food Service Advisory Committee - 11/19/2002 Minutes FOOD SERVICE ADVISORY COMMITEE November 19, 2002 Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District Administration Conference Room Members Present: Suzanne Gilliam, John Denson, Gabriel Hernandez, Carlos Moreno, William Schroeder, and Tom Watson Members Absent: Robert Ard Staff Present: Larry Jones,Annette Rodriguez,Ron Teel Guest: None Carlos Moreno called the meeting to order at 2:15 p.m. The minutes of the September 17, 2002 meeting were approved as written. E&CHP Report: Larry Jones, Environmental & Consumer Health Protection Manager continued the discussion from the previous meeting regarding FDA regulatory standards. It was decided at the last meeting to pursue these suggestions. Since that meeting Mr. Jones has been preparing information regarding the regulations. First two components we do well, with regard to the national food code. The third component that deals with compliance uses a different language. This will have to be addressed in the next year or so. The State law versus the national food code here is quite different. A study will be started re item 4 in the first of the year. Standard number 5. Plans to upgrade procedures that are in place. A lot of complaints are anonymous, so difficult to follow up. Standard number 6. We already doing most of recommended areas. Standard number 7. Educational programs offered by staff. Need new software to streamline process. End of year report. Permits are up; inspections will be lower as one person short. Complaints are running slightly ahead of last year. Discussion: All discussed which facilities to be considered institutions. Options will be presented in January. A suggestion made to offer incentives,by way of a sticker on the food license if they come in the top 10 percent. Larry invited the members to call if further ideas on the grouping for institutions. Mr. Watson's tenure on the board was recognized, and he was thanked for the great input to the committee. Old Business: None New Business: None Next Meeting: The next meeting will be held January 21, 2003 at 2:15 p.m. in the Administration Conference Room at the Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District, 1702 Horne Road.
