Director of Public Health's Report
Dr. Silvers advised the board members of the present dilemma in Nueces County. No
county ordinance currently exists dealing with food service. County legal staff has
advised us that the local health authority does not have authority to permit or inspect in
Nueces County. Dr. Silvers explained that inspections are still being performed in Port
Aransas. City ordinances have been forwarded to county legal for review and
presentation to County Commissioners Court. This situation has presented a legal for the
department. The Texas Department of Health is covering the rural areas of Nueces
County for the immediate future.
