HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Food Service Advisory Committee - 05/04/2004 Minutes FOOD SERVICE ADVISORY COMMITTEE May 4,2004 Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District Administration Conference Room Members Present: John Denson, William Schroeder,Robert Ard, Suzanne Gilliam, D.W. Haven, Carlos Moreno, and Gabriel Hernandez Members Absent: None Staff Present: Larry Jones,Annette Rodriguez,Dr. Michael Silvers, and Mike Hacker Meeting was called to order at 2:02 p.m. Mr. Schroeder, Chairman,welcomed all members. A recorded tape of this meeting is kept in the health department library for review. Minutes of the March 6th meeting were approved as written. Board Business Considerable discussion occurred among the members regarding the"A"Restaurant Rating Ordinance. Larry Jones had just received a draft copy of the proposed ordinance from the city's legal staff. Key points for review and inclusive in the final ordinance were: 1. That the"A"rating reflects no critical violation 2. Ordinance contain a specific clause for"Acts of God", in which restaurants would not lose "A"rating 3. Request for supervisory review/inspection from restaurant owner/manager for reconsideration after losing"A"Rating must be within 48 hours 4. "A"Rating restaurant will apply only to stationary Food Establishments hooked up to public utilities 5. A penalty clause for person or persons who violate provisions of ordinance Technology Update Technology update for the Environmental Health Department is being performed by Inkster Information System. A board member asked about time line for implementation. Larry Jones stated the prototype of PDA(Personal Data Assistant) should be available by the end of July 2004. SCAN D 1 Environmental Manager's Report Larry Jones reviewed and commented on his written report to the committee. Director of Public Health's Report Dr. Silvers advised the board members of the present dilemma in Nueces County. No county ordinance currently exists dealing with food service. County legal staff has advised us that the local health authority does not have authority to permit or inspect in Nueces County. Dr. Silvers explained that inspections are still being performed in Port Aransas. City ordinances have been forwarded to county legal for review and presentation to County Commissioners Court. This situation has presented a legal for the department. The Texas Department of Health is covering the rural areas of Nueces County for the immediate future.
