HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Food Service Advisory Committee - 07/06/2004 Minutes FOOD SERVICE ADVISORY COMMITTEE July 6,2004 Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District Administration Conference Room Members Present: John Denson, William Schroeder, Suzanne Gilliam, and D.W. Haven Members Absent: Robert Ard and Carlos Moreno Staff Present: Larry Jones,Dr. Michael Silvers, and Mike Hacker Meeting was called to order at 2:15 p.m. Mr. Schroeder, Chairman,welcomed the group and began the meeting. A recorded tape of this meeting is kept in the health department library for review. A motion was made and seconded to excuse Robert Ard because of illness. Minutes of the May 4, 2004 meeting were approved as written by the board. Board Business Brief discussion occurred among the members regarding the"A"Restaurant Rating • Ordinance. The final draft was not available for the Food Service Advisory Committee to review. Dr. Michael Silvers,Public Health Director, stated he would visit with Margie Rose,Assistant City Manager, about the lack of progress on the proposed ordinance from the City Legal Department. Technology Update Don Inkster, Inkster Information Technology,presented an update to the committee members on the new technology being implemented in Environmental Health. He explained what he had done thus far in programming the prototype PDA(Personal Data Assistant). A live demonstration will occur on July 12, 2004 to selected health department staff. Environmental Manager's Report Larry Jones reviewed and commented on his written report to the committee. Director of Public Health's Report Dr. Silvers briefed the committee members on the current situation in Nueces County for performing food service inspections. The Nueces County Attorney has determined that SCANNED 1 the Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District does not have the authority to permit nor inspect food service establishments in Nueces County and surrounding communities. Until which time a new order is approved by county commissioners, the Retail Foods Division,Texas Department of Health, will perform this function. Notification is going out to all food service facilities of this situation. Old Business: None New Business: The last topic concerned the proposed fee increases by the Corpus Christi City Council regarding fee increases for food service establishment health permits. The city Budget Office is recommending increases for approval during a July council meeting. Next Meeting: The next meeting will be held on September 7, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. in the Administration Conference Room at the Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District, 1702 Horne Road.
