Haven, Robert Ard, Carlos Moreno, and Beverly Rogers. Members Absent: None Staff Present: Larry Jones, Dr. Michael Silvers, and Mike Hacker Meeting was called to order by Chairman William Schroeder at 2:02 p.m. Mr. Schroeder, Chairman, introduced the new board member,Beverly Rogers, Community at Large representative appointed in July 2004 by the City Council. At the request of the Chairman, all board members and staff introduced themselves to Ms. Rogers. A recorded tape of this meeting is kept in the health department library for review. A motion was made and seconded to approve minutes from the Food Service Advisory meeting held July 6, 2004 with one correction for Robert Ard who was formally excused by the board due to illness. Motion had carried. Board Business Dr. Silvers began his comments by advising the board members that the health department had received the final revision of the"A"Restaurant Rating ordinance from city legal. He felt the last draft included all points made at prior meetings made by board members as well as concerns made by Mike Hacker, Larry Jones, and himself. He explained that this last revision provided for acts of nature rather than acts of God which might occur to a restaurant. Further Dr. Silvers discussed the process in which a restaurant would qualify from an A Rating. Board member Carlos Moreno reflected on conditions which had occurred during Hurricane Celia in 1970. Larry Jones advised on conditions occurring three years ago for tropical storm Allison in Houston, Texas. Several board members asked Dr. Silvers to clarify the appeal process should a restaurant receive an inspection score of 85 to 89. Some discussion happened about the time line to implement the new rating. Dr. Silvers advised the committee that the soonest the city council could consider the new ordinance was August 17t. Other board members requested further explanation on procedures for removing the placard. Dee Haven mentioned that since the B and C parts of an ABC rating are not being used, that the Food Service Advisory Committee might with to rename the ordinance from an A rating to SCANNED 1 another positive sounding name at a future date. Additionally, Mr.Haven is interested one year from now how many questionable restaurants have truly endeared to place more time and effort in their facility to qualify for an A Restaurant Rating. A motion was made by Dee Haven to approve the new A Restaurant Rating ordinance. A second motion was made by Suzanne Gilliam to approve the new ordinance. Chairman Schroeder called for a vote. Motion passed with one no vote by Carlos Moreno. Other Board Business Larry Jones spoke of the initial success in field testing a programmed PDA by an Environmental Health staff member. Dr. Silvers explained to the group that funding was available to purchase 9 new PDAs and another printer which will be compatible to the proposed software. Old Business: None New Business: None Next Meeting: The next meeting will be held on September 7, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. in the Administration Conference Room at the Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District, 1702 Horne Road.
