Board Business
At the request of management, Susan Cable, E-Government Director for the City of
Corpus Christi, was invited to explain what her department does for the city and public in
general. Through the direction of Ms. Cable, E-Government maintains the city's web-site
accessible to and for the citizens of Corpus Christi. She brought several examples and
explained in considerable detail how the information generated by various city
departments becomes available for the public to use. The city web-site may be accessed
at www.cctexas.com.
In her initial presentation, she informed board members how the data is cross referenced
for greater accessibility.
Committee members asked many relevant questions. As she explained, the public is
keenly interested in being able to obtain inspection scores for different food service
facilities. Substantial discussion occurred among board members and city staff.
Larry Jones cited two recent inspections performed by the Environmental Health staff
using PDAs and remaining issues to address. Ms. Cable explained that all the data to be
used in the future on the city web-site will come from data inputted from the PDAs.
Mr. Jones asked the E-Government Director how long information should be accessible
to the general public. She stated this would be a management decision to make. Chairman
Schroeder advised the committee that the capability to obtain real time data would be
most helpful. Additionally, a committee member requested that when a re-inspection is
