Mr. Haven requested that an application form be sent to him for Mr. Ard. DIRECTOR' S REPORT: Mr. Decker handed out copies of City Council approved increased food service establishment fees in Ordinance 021207 . Increases were in accordance with the Committee's prior recommendations. Mr. Decker reported sending questionnaires to 10% of food establishments to find out how the Health Department can better help them. 38% responded: 16% with suggestions, 84% without . One suggestion that will be implemented will be telling the food establishment why violations need correcting. These were the questions, with a request for comments on each: 1) Do regular Health Department inspections help maintain a safe food service operation? 91% Yes; 3% No; 6% Not Sure. 2) Is the Health Department Inspector courteous during inspection of your establishment? 100% Yes; 0% No. 3) Are Food Handler Sanitation Classes, required by the Health Department, helpful in providing safe food service? 82% Yes; 9% No; 9% Not Sure. 4) Does your inspector approach work more from an educational than a "traffic cop" point of view"? 91% Yes; 6% No; 3% Not Sure. 5) When you call the Health Department , are staff members courteous and helpful? 97% Yes; 0% No; 3% Not Sure. A Committee Member suggested approaching Channel 16 (or educational. access channel ) about running the Food Handler film as a Health Department service. Mr. Dominguez asked if a copy of the video can be purchased and shown at his business . Mr. Haven says Del Mar does not have a policy regarding making and selling videos, although some colleges do. The video is not copyright; he will provide Mr. Dominguez a copy in exchange for a blank tape. Mr. Snapka says someone asked City Council if food establishments pay for cost of health inspector's service. Mr. Decker says food service establishment fees go into a general fund from which these services are paid. Mr. Haven sent report to Mayor, as requested. He hasn' t heard from her. Mr. Haven is proud that Del Mar offers their 15 hour Food Manager's Course for $27 . 50 (including $5 to the State for accreditation)'. Since it is a required course he feels it should be kept at minimum price. Prices in some other cities range $50-$65 . Meeting adjourned at 2 : 30 p.m. SCANNED
