DIRECT•OR' S REPORT: Mr.. Beynon is out of town for ACO Euthanization Medication
Certification. Statistical comparison for this time of year and last year:
less• dogs were donated by owners who refused citations; less dOgs & far less ; I;
cats' were brought to- AC -by public; less bite cases were beinginvestigated; !,! l
more animals. were transferred to PAWS (possibly PetSmart impact);; a similar !i
number of dogs were euthanized, but less cats. RABIES UPDATE:` Region l8 had ,!j
• 130 cases in 1992 compared to 85 in 1991. A coyote, . which attacked 2 'dogs'jin !.
Agua Dulce on 1/12/93, has been confirmed as the 1st case -of rabies inHNueces H
. County in 1993 ; another coyote in the incident escaped. County !iAnimal .11
"Control will hold 3 rabies vaccination clinics next week. " As a;!iresult of a

Information Specialist go door-to-door to check on pet licenses/vaccinations,
veterinary clinics have been very busy; Dr. Sisley read an unhappy citizen's ,i
letter to the newspaper about this issue and' being unable tobuyrabies ,!,
vaccine in .farm/ranch stores. Rabies vaccine requires cold storage and
transport for maximum reliability. Advisory Committees will:;ineedi ;to be �,�'
specific about agenda items and what is brought .up at the meetings. !; ;! ,I 1-

POTBELLIED 'PIG DISCUSSION: Ordinance changes to. legalize the keeping ':of this v
popular house pet . is desirable. To aid in the writing of the ordinance, the
Health Department's legal advisor asks' for specifics, includingithe •',porrect

AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION: Bob Braun of Beeville', spoke with Mr.;; Beyno,n `about
obtaining a permit for horse drawn shuttles on C.C. . Beach; he wap advised'"to ,;,i
explain his plans to this committee. .• Each shuttle would accommodate; 20-25" ':'
people and be drawn by 2 horses. - He was advised ,to submit his proposals; in
writing, being specific as to heat accommodation, route, weight,'.limits', :etc. ,
for review: He- said he has contacted Engineering Dept. and ; the Lady .Lex ;I, .
staff. Prior City-Council approval is needed before a permit can be "issued. i'll
