Summary of Minutes for June 7, 2012
1. CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Ramiro Gamboa called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.

2. APPROVAL OF REGULAR MEETING MINUTES OF 04/05/12
MOTION Motion — Derrick Reaves Second — Lucy Reta Passed
After motion was passed Commissioner Alonzo requested an amendment for Item 9 be
changed from "Support of House Bill 1621" to "Support to amend House Bill 1621 ".
Chairperson Gamboa asked the Commission is everyone was in favor of the corrections,
all said "I ". Chairperson Gamboa asked the commission to vote on the motion accepted
with the correction, all said "I ". Motion Passes
3. PUBLIC COMMENTS (LIMITED TO 3 MINUTES)
None
4. PRESENTATIONS
A. Support of House Bill 1621, Representative of Transportation, Disadvantaged
individuals - Abel Alonzo
Commissioner Alonzo requested to retract his presentation stating that the topic had
become to controversial and has decided to take the request for support to amend the
House bill 1621 on a different direction.
6. Chairpersons Report
A. Annual Retreat
Sylvia Wilson announced the RTA has accepted to host the event at their site on
Saturday June 23, 2012 from 8:00 a.m. -1:30 p.m., RTA will provide breakfast, and a
box lunch. Mrs. Wilson mentioned that she would be sending out an email with "Save
the Date" menu along with an Agenda for the event. Entities will be members of the

Human Relations Commission (16) , the Committee for Persons with Disabilities (9),
and the (RCAT) RTA Committee on Accessible Transportation (10). Chairman
Gamboa briefly discussed what and who to expect at the Retreat.
7. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS
A. Housing Subcommittee
No Report.
B. Committee for Persons With Disabilities
Carlos Vargas Chairperson of CFPWD gave a brief update on the 06/06/12
Committee meeting.
C. Education Subcommittee
Brianna Mendiola reported that she conducted an EEOC Youth @ Work outreach
training to the students at Foy H. Moody High School on 05/23/12. Commissioner
Kathleen Cooper and Charlene Kaplan, EEOC Compliance Officer from the
Human Relations Division, were present to assist her. Ms. Mendiola reported that
she was surprised that many of the youth /students were not aware of EEOC's
employment rights and issues of discrimination pertaining to employment.
D. Disparity Subcommittee
No Report.
8. HUMAN RELATIONS ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT
A. Department Monthly Performance Report Review
Mrs. Wilson provided the May 2012 Monthly Performance Report. Highlights of
division activity provided.
(A copy of the report is attached at the back of the minutes)
B. Department Update - Outreach Training
Mrs. Wilson announced Fair Housing outreach training sessions on Fair Housing,
ADA Accessibility and VAWA training to be conducted at the Corpus Christi.
Apartment Association Annual Trade Show on behalf of the Human Relations
Division.
C. Clarification of 2 re- reappointments and recommendations of 1 new member
Mrs. Wilson clarified out of the three reappointments only one commissioner was not
eligible for reappointment because that commissioner had already served the whole
term. The other two reappointments Commissioner Toni Davis and Edna Arredondo
however were eligible for the reappointments.
9. COMMISSIONERS REPORT
Chairperson Gamboa presented Certificates of Appreciation to Commissioner Lucy
Reta, Youth Commissioner Janet Zuniga, and Youth Commissioner Brianna Mendiola as
it was their last meeting.
