Summary of Minutes for December 6, 2012
1. CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Ramiro Gamboa called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.

Chairperson Gamboa announced Youth Commissioner Justin Cortez has verbally
resigned and is expecting a form letter of resignation.

PUBLIC COMMENTS (LIMITED TO 3 MINUTES)
The Public Comments was opened with no one coming forward the public
comments were closed.
5.
PRESENTATIONS
a. Texas Diversity Council Presentation - by Angeles Valenciano, Vice -
President and Laura Alvarado, Director
Ms. Valenciano and Ms. Alvarado spoke about the history as well as the
different aspects of the organization.

6.
DISCUSSION /POSSIBLE ACTON ON COMMISSION VACANCY
Chairperson Gamboa stated the Bio Review Subcommittee which consists of
Commissioners Abel Alonzo, Kathleen Cooper and Toni Davis, with Chairperson of the
subcommittee being Abel Alonzo. Due to Commissioner Alonzo being absent from this
meeting Chairperson Gamboa request that Commission staff member Sylvia Wilson
convene the subcommittee prior to the next regular meeting.

7. CHAIRPERSON'S REPORT - NOTHING TO REPORT
Mr. Gamboa discussed to the Commission the importance of attendance and absences for
quorum purposes.
8. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS
a. Housing Subcommittee — Nothing to Report
b. Committee for Persons With Disabilities - Update on 1117112 & 1215112 Meeting
CFPWD Chairperson Vargas was absent from this meeting.
c. Education Subcommittee — Katy Cooper and Youth Commissioners
Commissioner Cooper stated she has contacted different departments of the
CCISD regarding who she needs to pair up with to get into the classrooms back.
Commissioner Salazar stated she has been testing all week and she has spoke with
Mr. Valdez and will meet with him after testing. Ms. Cooper stated Youth
Commissioner Roberson is currently signing up actors and actresses from her
theater arts class. Ms. Cooper explained to the audience the purpose of the Youth
Commissioner Education Subcommittee.
d. Disparity Subcommittee — Nothing to Report
Chairperson Gamboa requests Mike Barrera give a disparity update either in
January or February meeting.
e. Goals Update — Update by Edna Arredondo
Commissioner Arredondo stated she had nothing to report at this time till next
meeting.
9. HUMAN RELATIONS ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT
a. Department Monthly Performance Report Review
Mrs. Wilson provided the November 2012 Monthly Performance Report. Highlights of
division activity provided.
(A copy of the report is attached at the back of the minutes)
10. DENTIFY ITEMS TO BE PLACED ON NEXT AGENDA
• Discussion of Texas Diversity Council
• Disparity Subcommittee - Update by Mike Barrera
• Discussion and Action on recommendation and new appointment to replace Youth
Commissioner Justin Cortez
