CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Gamboa called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. A. REQUESTS FOR EXCUSED ABSENCES MOTION Ramiro Gamboa, Margie Myers and Eleni Salazar for 6/6/13 monthly meeting. Motion — Mickey Kramer Second — Corey Elizondo Motion Pass 3. APPROVAL OF REGULAR MEETING MINUTES OF 414113 and 5116113 MOTION Motion — Joel Mumphord Second — Corey Elizondo Motion Pass 4. PUBLIC COMMENTS (LIMITED TO 3 MINUTES) Public Comments was opened; no comments made. 5. PRESENTATIONS a. Operation Safe Return - Isaac Rodriguez, Police Department Mr. Rodriguez provided handouts and information to the Commissioners. Mr. Rodriguez stated last year there were two events that took place as this year there will only be one event held Saturday, July 13, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the Sunrise Mall, 5858 SPID (Next to Burlington Coat Factory). The event is Free to the public. Brief comments and questions followed by Commissioners and staff. (A copy of the Handouts is attached at the end of the minutes) b. Youth Leadership Opportunities - by Corey Elizondo, CCHRC Youth Commissioner Mrs. Garcia stated due to technical difficulty the Commission would not be able to view the PowerPoint presentation Mr. Elizondo had prepared, however, Mr. Elizondo would be able to give a verbal presentation and the PowerPoint slides would be attached in the minutes. Mr. Elizondo and Ms. Contreras gave a brief update on the Foy Moody High School Career Fair they attended on 5/22/13. Mr. Elizondo then gave a brief update on the Youth Leadership event he attended on 5/18/13. Page 1 of 5 (A copy of the PowerPoint is attached at the end of the minutes) 6. CHAIRPERSON'S REPORT a. Term Ending Acknowledgment for Margie Myers, Grace Roberson and Eleni Salazar Vice Chairperson Cooper acknowledged Commissioner Margie Myers and Youth Commissioners Grace Roberson and Eleni Salazar terms end on 6/14/13. Nominations to fill vacancies which may or may not be accepted by the Mayor are as follows: Alice Aparicio-Bussey (Sells Dwellings) replacing Margie Myers, Almira Flores (Commissioner) replacing Abel Alonzo, Kyle James (Youth Commissioner) replacing Grace Roberson, and Faith Meza (Youth Commissioner) replacing Eleni Salazar. Mrs. Wilson stated request for reappointments were requested of by Elias Valverde, Jamiee Contreras and Corey Elizondo. Brief discussion regarding dates of swearing in and first meeting followed. 7. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS a. Housing Subcommittee — Update by Margie Myers Nothing to Report as Ms. Myers was absent. b. Committee for Persons With Disabilities — 413113 Meeting Update by Carlos Vargas Nothing to Report as the Chairperson for Persons with Disabilities was absent. c. Education Subcommittee — Update by Kathleen Cooper Vice Chairperson Cooper stated the update was regarding the Foy Moody High School Career Fair that Youth Commissioner Corey Elizondo shared during the presentation. d. Disparity Subcommittee — Nothing to Report e. Goals Subcommittee — Update on 2nd Annual Retreat - Edna Arredondo Ms. Arredondo stated she had to defer the update to Sylvia Wilson. Mrs. Wilson stated she hasn't heard any further information regarding the event from RCAT. She still needs to meet with the chairpersons of the three prospected entities who may be attending. Ms. Wilson then stated Chairperson Darren Bates of the Committee for Persons with Disabilities was questioning if it was important the CFPWD attend to be a part of the event and stated she wasn't sure if the CFPWD would be present f. 50th Anniversary Subcommittee — Update There was nothing to report as the Subcommittee hadn't met. Mrs. Wilson stated one person had to be replaced since Mr. Alonzo was designated to be on the subcommittee. 8. HUMAN RELATIONS ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT A. Monthly Department Performance Report Mrs. Wilson provided the May 2013 Monthly Performance Report with highlights of Division activity. Brief questions and comments were made regarding the Human Relations budget by various Commissioners. (A copy of the Handout is attached at the end of the minutes) Page 2 of 5 9.
