Summary of Minutes for July 11, 2013
1. CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Gamboa called the meeting to order at 5:04 p.m.

2. INTRODUCTION OF NEW COMMISSIONERS
MOTION Faith Meza is 18 years old will be a senior this coming school year at Roy Miller High
School. Ms. Meza is involved in various school curricular programs.
Almira Flores is a tech at Sphon Shoreline Hospital and a member of the Hispanic Network
of Texas Organization.
3. REQUESTS FOR EXCUSED ABSENCES
Pastor Derrick Reaves, Alice Aparicio-Bussey and Kyle James for 7/11/13 monthly
meeting.

6. PRESENTATIONS
a. EEOC Training — Kathleen Cooper and Joel Mumphord, Corpus Christi Human
Relations Commissioners
Ms. Cooper and Mr. Mumphord gave a PowerPoint presentation update on information
they gained from an EEOC Training they attended in San Antonio on behalf of the
Human Relations Commission. The Duo interacted with Commissioners by asking
questions and giving various scenarios to the commissioners regarding employment
discrimination situations.

7. CHAIRPERSON'S REPORT
a. Texas Diversity Council 2013 Woman in Leadership Symposium
Ms. Wilson stated since the City is a member of the Texas Diversity of South Texas
Council, the City received a table to attend the event. Ms. Wilson then stated various
City employees were going to attend the event, should anyone of those who were
invited decide there aren't able to attend then female members off the Commission
would be invited.
Chairperson Gamboa stated various commissioners would gain great insight by
attending such an event and suggested if there weren't enough seats available at the
City's table for Commissioners to attend the event then he would come up with the
monetary to purchase a table for Commissioners.
Youth Commissioner Corey Elizondo stated he would be interested in attending the
event even if it is for women only as he feels it would be beneficial for men to be
educated on what the women are doing and to see how they are leaders in the various
employment industries. Mr. Elizondo then stated how he felt the event may help him so
further learn how to be supportive to future women becoming leaders.
b. Replacement of Two Members (C. Vargas and A. Alonzo) on the 50th Anniversary
Subcommittee
Extensive discussion occurred by various Commissioners and Staff members.
Discussion concluded in new Subcommittee members being: Toni Davis, Kathleen
Cooper, Ramiro Gamboa, Mickey Kramer, Edna Arredondo, Faith Meza, Corey
Elizondo, and Joel Mumphord. Chairperson Gamboa requested the 50th Anniversary
Subcommittee meet on 7/25/13 at 4-5pm in the Human Relations Conference Room.
8. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS
a. Housing Subcommittee — Nothing to Report
b. Committee for Persons with Disabilities — Ms. Wilson stated there was nothing to
Report other than the new vacancy on the committee as Chairperson Darren Bates
has resigned.
c. Education Subcommittee — Update by Kathleen Cooper
Ms. Cooper reminded the Commission of the Operation Safe Return event that
would be held at Sunrise Mall 7/13/13, between 10 a.m. - 3p.m.
d. Disparity Subcommittee — Nothing to Report
e. Goals Subcommittee — Update on 2nd Annual Retreat - Edna Arredondo
Ms. Wilson stated there was nothing to report as she hadn't heard of any
information from RTAC. Mr. Gamboa requested Ms. Wilson set an appointment for
him and her to meet later in the week regarding the 25nd Annual Retreat.
f. 50th Anniversary Subcommittee — Update
Mr. Gamboa stated the subcommittee met and would like to do a proclamation on
10/08/13 and invite as many people as possible including previous chairpersons; a
1/2 (half) day symposium on Saturday, 10/05/13 at the Ben McDonald Library (former
Greenwood library); caller times - news article; if possible for Commissioner Jaimee
Contreras to set up an interview of Commissioners with the Domingo Show.

9. HUMAN RELATIONS ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT
Mrs. Wilson provided the June 2013 Monthly Performance Report with highlights of
Division activity. Extensive discussion followed by Youth Commissioner Corey Elizondo
regarding the ADA sidewalk request for Sunny Brook St. (a topic mentioned to the CCHRC
during a CFPWD meeting update a few months prior) Mrs. Wilson mentioned the ADA curb
cut/sidewalk request accepted by the Human Relations Division. Mrs. Wilson then
suggested the CCHRC get with the CFPWD to do a resolution. Mr. Gamboa requested Mr.
Elizondo get with Patsy Garcia, ADA Compliance Officer of the Human Relations Division
so he may give a presentation expressing his concerns under Public Comments during the
August meeting.
