Summary of Minutes for February 06, 2014
1. CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Cooper called the meeting to order at 5:01 p.m.

4. PUBLIC COMMENTS (LIMITED TO 3 MINUTES)
a. Brooks Hooper, Corpus Christi resident stated he has been riding the #6 bus for
about 2 %2 years. Mr. Books expressed how happy he is with the RTA bus
services.
b. Marsha Svatopolsky, Corpus Christi resident stated she rides the bus #79 that
she takes to and from work which will be taken away in RTA's new plan. Ms.
Myers then stated she had left messaged with RTA for someone to advise her
on which rout she would need to take to get to work. Wes Vardeman stated the
complaint has been received and is currently in the process of being addressed.
5. PRESENTATIONS
a. RTA's Proposed Service Improvements — by Jane Haas, RTA's Marketing
Director
Ms. Haas, Wes Vardeman and other RTA staff provided a PowerPoint
presentation regarding the Long Range System Plan Phase 1 Implementation
Proposed Service Changes. RTA staff also showed big poster size pictures of
the rout plans spread out in the Council Chambers for Committee members to
go around the room and look at.

b. Introduction of New City Attorney Roxann Pais Cotroneo
Mrs. Wilson stated the item is to be tabled.
6. CHAIRPERSON'S REPORT
a. 2nd Annual Retreat Update
Mrs. Wilson stated the retreat took place on January 25, 2014 and apologized for any
inconvenience that may have occurred due to the retreat needing to be canceled on its
original date of January 17, 2014 due to posting technicalities. Mrs. Wilson then read
over and discussed the 2014 Retreat Notes taken by Ms. Aparicio. Brief discussion
ensued as various Commissioners provided retreat input.
Vice-Chairperson requested all Commissioners to provide their commitment for at least
one event this year. She then requested the Youth Commissioners provide three events
they are willing to commit to, to promote public awareness of the Human Relations
Commission. Brief discussion ensued.
b. Vacancy and Chairperson Update
Ms. Wilson stated vacancies will be discussed on the February 10, 2014 Council
Meeting. She then stated no recommendations will be necessary as Council has
changed how vacancies are filled. The vacancies are now mayor appointed with no
board recommendations for council to acknowledge.
Commissioner Almira Flores announced her resignation do to currently being a part of
another organization which takes up a lot of her time; therefore, she is unable to
continue with the CCHRC.
7. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS
o Housing Subcommittee — Corpus Christi Realtors Association 2014 Housing
Fair
Commissioner Bussey stated the event will be held on February 8, 2014 and stated
she would attend on behalf of the Human Relations Commission. Mrs. Bussey
stated the Housing Fair would be from 10:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Antonio Garcia
Art and Education Center, 2021 Agnes. Mrs. Bussey gave brief information on what
would type of information would be available at the event.
b. Committee for Persons with Disabilities
Committee Chairperson David Ramos gave a brief update regarding the 2/5/14
regular meeting; Presentations and Department Reports.
c. Education Subcommittee — Update on School Presentations
Youth Commissioner stated most of the information was given during the Retreat
information, however, his principal stated dates will be need to consider when would
be best to schedule the presentation(s). Youth Commissioner James stated he has
received a verbal promise for some time after February 2014. Youth Commissioner
Meza stated her school is also awaiting dates form the Commission to decide when
would be the best time. Mrs. Wilson stated when youth commissioners are ready to
give the presentations for them to notify the Human Relation Division so that the
department can provide them with brochures and such to be handed out along with
particular give away.
d. Disparity Subcommittee — No Report

e. Goals Subcommittee — Discussion/Action to Remove
Brief discussion took place in result of the discussion a motion was requested to
remove the Goals Subcommittee.

8. HUMAN RELATIONS ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT
Mrs. Wilson provided and discussed her January 2014. Monthly Performance Report to
commissioners. Mrs. Wilson also announced during the Committee For Persons With
Disabilities meeting under the Engineering Department update, Mr. Bray discussed an
application for CDBG funds were submitted in hopes to begin a project for sidewalks on
Sunnybrook between Ayers St and Kostoryz Rd. Questions and comments ensued by
numerous Commissioners.
