CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Mumphord called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. A. REQUESTS FOR EXCUSED ABSENCES Mickey Kramer and Toni Davis for 9/4/14 regular monthly meeting. MOTION Motion — Elias Valverde Second — Edna Arredondo Motion Passed 3. APPROVAL OF REGULAR MEETING MINUTES OF 8/7/14 MOTION Motion — Elias Valverde Second — Lyndon Smiling Motion Passed. 4. PUBLIC COMMENTS (LIMITED TO 3 MINUTES) None. 5. PRESENTATIONS A. 6t" Annual Coastal Bend Walk n' Roll Celebration — Patsy Garcia, Human Relations Division/Walk n' Roll Committee Mrs. Garcia announced the 6th Annual Coastal Bend Walk n' Roll Celebration will be held Saturday, 9/27/14, registration starts at 6:30 a.m. the walk begins at 8:00 a.m., from Bayfront Water Park at Resaca & Shoreline. The walk is a 2k walk for people of all abilities. A free health fair will be available for all participants after the walk. The Walk is free to the public, free t-shirts will be given to the first 400 participants, free snacks and beverages, Zumba dance warm-up will be provided along with musical entertainment provided by Carlos Vargas DJ Services. Mrs. Garcia introduced the Walk n' Roll Committee Chairs; Ms. 2013 Coastal Bend Senior, Katy Costello; Ms. 2014 Coastal Bend Senior, Rosie Garcia. Mrs. Garcia then stated the Walk n' Roll President Mr. Mike Rendon was not able to attend however; he did request she give a shout out to the sponsors for their support. Mrs. Wilson then mentioned the Human Relations Division would a booth to do outreach on services the department provides to provide information about the issues handled by the department and to promote the Committee for Persons with Disabilities Page 1 of 6 and Human Relations Commission making the community aware of the Committee. (A copy of the flyer is attached at the end of the minutes) B. Trash and Recycle Pick-Up Services (TAPRS) — Christina Aparicio, Human Relations Division Mrs. Wilson requested the item be tabled since Ms. Aparicio isn't available to give the presentation. Chairperson Mumphord approved the request to table the presentation till 10/1/14. C. No Wrong Door— David Ramos, Aging and Disability Resource Center David Ramos stated he is now working with Coastal Bend Council Governments, under that umbrella is Area Agency on Aging and Costal Bend Aging and Resource Center. Mr. Ramos then elaborated on the foundations of the organization and its various programs. Mr. Ramos spoke particularly about the "Linking Support Services for Older Adults & Their Caregivers" program. Mr. Ramos provided a brochure and flyer to the CFPWD members. Mr. Ramos also stated he has been in contact with various apartment properties to confirm their if their accessible units are in fact accessible, he will then provide information to the CCHRC on a later date. Comments and questions ensued by further discussions. (A Copy of the brochure and flyer are attached at the end of the minutes) 6. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS A. Housing Subcommittee — No Update B. Committee for Persons with Disabilities Chairperson Ramos reported on the Presentations and Staff Member Reports of the CFPWD 9/3/14 monthly regular meeting. C. Education Subcommittee — Operation Safe Return Mrs. Wilson stated the subcommittee consists of Commissioners Mickey Kramer, Toni Davis, Jaimee Contreras and the three Youth Commissioners. She then stated Commissioner Kramer wasn't present to give a report and asked if any of the present youth attended the event to give a report. Youth Commissioner Saherish Surani reported she along with Hayden Sutherland attended the event distributed giveaways and brochures. Youth Commissioner Hayden Sutherland reported 100 event attendees approached the booth, some people asked questions about the Commission. Chairperson Mumphord thanked all the Commissioners who attended the event. D. Disparity Subcommittee — No Report E. 50th Anniversary Subcommittee — No Update 8. HUMAN RELATIONS ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT Chairperson Mumphord welcomed Mrs. Wilson back from her EEOC conference trip. Mrs. Wilson reported she attended the annual EEOC conference in San Diego, California where one of the topics of discriminatory bases was on Disability (Pregnancy). Mrs. Wilson continued with the update of the conference and other topics discussed. Brief questions were discussed. Mrs. Wilson then provided her departmental report discussing the August 2014 monthly performance report. (A copy of the Performance report is attached at the end of the minutes) Page 2 of 6 9. IDENTIFY ITEMS TO BE PLACED ON NEXT AGENDA • Appointments for Education Subcommittee • Homeless Ordinance Change • Trash and Recycle Pick-Up Service (TAPRS) — Christina Aparicio, Human Relations Division Mrs. Wilson invited Commissioners to attend the Texas Diversity meeting; the topic will be Recruitment in Public Safety Positions. The Texas Diversity meeting will be held Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at the Wells Fargo Bank downtown.
