CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Kramer called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. A. REQUESTS AND APPROVALS FOR EXCUSED ABSENCES Dr. Benibo and Maria Rodriquez requested excused absences for the May meeting due to family emergencies. Saherish and Zoya Surani requested excused absences for the May meeting due to school conflicts. MOTION Motion — Lyndon Smiling Second —April Bassett Motion Passed 3. Discussion/Action —June Term Expirations - Laura Commons, Rene Saenz and Melody Guerrero stated they were interested in seeking reappointment to the Commission. Lyndon Smiling stated he would not be seeking reappointment. Saherish and Zoya Surani were absent from the meeting and Sylvia Wilson said she would check with them by email. 4. APPROVAL OF REGULAR MEETING MINUTES OF 4.06.17 MOTION Motion — Laura Commons Second — Lyndon Smiling Motion Passed 5. PUBLIC COMMENTS (LIMITED TO 3 MINUTES) - None 6. PRESENTATIONS: A. Del Richardson, Del Richardson & Associates, Inc. — Harbor Bridge Project Ms. Richardson stated she is the Program Manager for the Hillcrest Washington Coles Voluntary Real Estate Acquisition and Relocation Program and explained how the program came into existence. She discussed the options available to the residents of the Hillcrest Washington Coles neighborhood and the program details. Ms. Richardson answered questions from the commissioners and provided contact information. Page 1 of 5 B. Update on Citizens Alliance for Fairness and Progress -April Bassett stated she had nothing to add to Ms. Richardson's information. 7. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS A. Housing Subcommittee — Laura Commons handed out the Corpus Christi Housing Report for March 2017 and informed the Commission it's still considered a seller's market at this time. Nora Mireles provided a report on the rental dwellings market for April and stated she had learned that the required ADA units in an apartment complex is 5%, in answer to a question from Mr. Balli last month. (Copies of the handouts are attached to the Minutes.) B. Committee for Persons with Disabilities—Richard Balli provided an update from the May 3rd, 2017 meeting of the Committee for Persons with Disabilities. He commented on the April ADA Citation Count from CCPD Parking Control, the South Texas Lighthouse for the Blind Rubber Duck Round-Up on May 27th and the Their Day event at Salinas Park on May 27th. Mr. Balli also stated he had finished the CBAD course and is now a certified advocate. C. Education Subcommittee — Melody Guerrero commented that they are still working on possible dates for the presentation they had tailored towards students with specific disabilities. D. Scholarship Program Subcommittee — No update until after the Mayoral election. 8. HUMAN RELATIONS ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT — Sylvia Wilson reported on the statistics from the April 2017 Performance Report. (A copy of the report is attached to the Minutes.) 9. CHAIRPERSON'S REPORT - Mr. Kramer thanked those that attended the Grand Opening at the South Texas Lighthouse for the Blind on April 7th and encouraged participation at the Rubber Duck Round-Up on May 27th and Operation Safe Return in August. Mr. Balli reminded the commissioners of the CAST for KIDS event in September. 10.
