CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Kramer called the meeting to order at 5:02 p.m. A. ROLL CALL Present Commissioners: Richard Balli Nora Mireles April Bassett Maria Rodriguez (EDU) Jeremy Coleman Dr. Roy Stock Laura Commons Zoya Surani (EDU) Mickey Kramer (EDU) (SCHLP) John Williamson (EDU) Present Staff: Sylvia Wilson (Human Relations) Ginger Davis (Human Relations) Absent Commissioners: Carlos Aguinaga (Schlp) Melody Guerrero (EDU) Dr. Bilaye Benibo Thomas Rosales Linda Cantu Absent Staff: Lisa Aguilar (Legal) 2. REQUESTS AND APPROVALS FOR EXCUSED ABSENCES Carlos Aguinaga and Linda Cantu were unable to attend the January meeting due to illness and work conflicts and requested an excused absence. APPROVAL OF REGULAR MEETING MINUTES OF 12.07.17 Motion – April Bassett Second – Laura Commons Motion Passed 4. PUBLIC COMMENTS (LIMITED TO 3 MINUTES) - None 5. PRESENTATIONS: A. Fair Housing Assessment – Rudy Bentancourt, Director of Housing and Community Development for the City of Corpus Christi Mr. Bentancourt provided an overview of the assessment to the Fair Housing process which was recently completed and answered questions from the members. He commented that the report would be available once it is published. B. Update on Citizens Alliance for Fairness and Progress - April Bassett stated she had no update this month. MOTION MOTION Page 2 of 7 6. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS A. Housing Subcommittee – Laura Commons provided the Corpus Christi Housing Report and the Nueces County Housing Report for November 2017 and Nora Mireles handed out the December 2017 report on the rental dwelling market. (Copies of the handouts are attached to the Minutes.) B. Committee for Persons with Disabilities – Richard Balli shared the CCPD ADA Citation Report for December 2017. He also discussed the plans for a National Night Out for the disabled community to take place in October and the Special Olympics Spring Games in April. C. Education Subcommittee – Zoya Surani agreed to contact the other youth commissioners, Mr. Kramer, Mrs. Commons and Ms. Rodriguez to determine specific dates for possible presentations at the high schools. D. Scholarship Program Subcommittee – Dissolving the subcommittee was discussed and it was agreed to table the matter until Dr. Benibo could share in the discussion. 7. HUMAN RELATIONS ADMINISTRATOR’S REPORT – Sylvia Wilson reported on the statistics from the December 2017 Performance Report and informed the commissioners that the Who’s Got your Back? – Life After Graduation event will be held on March 1st at the Mary Grett Transition Center. She commented that she will provide more information when it becomes available. (A copy of the Performance Report is attached to the Minutes.) 8. CHAIRPERSON’S REPORT - Mr. Kramer stated that he had no report for this month. 9. Identify Items to be placed on next Agenda • Pastor Adam Carrington on affordable housing for the Hillcrest and Washington Coles neighborhoods • Jennifer Arismendi, Director of Special Education, CCISD • Mary Grett Transition Center 10.
