Summary of Minutes for November 1, 2018
1. CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Laura Commons called the meeting to order at 5:04 p.m.

2. REQUESTS AND APPROVALS FOR EXCUSED ABSENCES — None
3. APPROVAL OF REGULAR MEETING MINUTES OF 9.06.18

4. PUBLIC COMMENTS (LIMITED TO 3 MINUTES) - None
5. PRESENTATIONS:
A. Public Information Office — Use of Social Media —Tracey Cantu, Assistant
Director Public Information Office/Communications
Ms. Cantu provided information concerning the challenges of establishing a social
media account. To reach a broader audience, Ms. Cantu suggested using the City of
Corpus Christi social media accounts where they can assist with the content to be
posted.
B. Update on Citizens Alliance for Fairness and Progress — Ms. Bassett commented
that Pastor Carrington had sent a letter to the Federal Highway of Transportation
regarding the requests from the citizens who are going to stay. She stated she would
forward the letter to the Human Relations Division, so it could be handed out at the
December meeting. Ms. Bassett plans to attend the November 8t" CAB meeting and
will provide an update at the next meeting.

6. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS
A. Housing Subcommittee — Linda Cantu provided a handout and commented on
the Corpus Christi and Nueces County Housing Reports for September 2018.
Nora Mireles reported on the October 2018 rental dwellings market and provided
a handout. (Copies of the handouts are attached to the Minutes.)
B. Committee for Persons with Disabilities — Mr. Balli had no report but
commented on the success of the Toys for Tots.
C. Education Subcommittee — Sylvia Wilson stated that the subcommittee would
be comprised of adult commissioners and that Rachel Benavides had expressed
a desire to chair the subcommittee. June Martinez was also interested in the
position. It was agreed to table the discussion until the December meeting when
Ms. Benavides could be present. Mr. Coleman asked for a list of the chair's
duties and Mrs. Wilson stated she would email it to the commissioners.
7. HUMAN RELATIONS ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT — Sylvia Wilson reported on
the statistics from the October 2018 Performance Report and answered questions
from the commissioners. (A copy of the Performance Report is attached to the
Minutes.)
8. CHAIRPERSON'S REPORT - Mrs. Commons commented on the need to decide
as a group what will be shared on social media, so it can be sent to Tracey Cantu. It
was agreed that setting criteria for what is posted on social media should be
included on the next agenda. Mrs. Wilson agreed to send out the bylaws to the
commissioners for their review and Mr. Balli suggested that a subcommittee be
formed to present possible topics for social media.
