Summary of Minutes for January 10, 2019
1. CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Laura Commons called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.

2. REQUESTS AND APPROVALS FOR EXCUSED ABSENCES – None
3. APPROVAL OF REGULAR MEETING MINUTES OF 12.06.18

4. PUBLIC COMMENTS (LIMITED TO 3 MINUTES) - None
5. PRESENTATIONS:
A. Arlene Medrano, Business Liaison, City Manager’s Office – Dockless Vehicles
Ms. Medrano stated that the first reading of the ordinance pertaining to a six-month
pilot program with the dockless vehicles passed City Council with one minor
adjustment. Advantages of the program were discussed and then Ms. Medrano
answered questions from the members.
B. Update on Citizens Alliance for Fairness and Progress – April Bassett
Ms. Bassett stated she would be attending a meeting that evening, January 10th, and
that the August 15th, 2018 letter from Adam Carrington to the Texas Department of
Transportation would be discussed.

6. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS
A. Housing Subcommittee – Linda Cantu provided a handout and commented on
the Corpus Christi and Nueces County Housing Reports for November 2018.
Nora Mireles reported on the December 2018 rental dwellings market and
provided a handout. (Copies of the handouts are attached to the Minutes.)
B. Committee for Persons with Disabilities – Mr. Balli reported on the ADA citation
count for December 2018 and advised the Commission of the award received by
Parts & Recreation for the all-inclusive playground at Salinas Park.
7. Education Subcommittee – Laura Commons commented that hopefully we will
have some new appointments for youth commissioners by the end of February.
8. HUMAN RELATIONS ADMINISTRATOR’S REPORT – Sylvia Wilson reported on
the statistics from the December 2018 Performance Report and answered
questions from the commissioners. (A copy of the Performance Report is attached
to the Minutes.)
9. CHAIRPERSON’S REPORT - Mrs. Commons reported that Moody High School
will have an Adulting 101 class and that it’s possible Ray High School will have
something similar in the future. The possibility of a presentation to address
employment and housing issues was discussed. Mrs. Wilson advised the
Commission of the Life After Graduation – Who’s Got Your Back? event scheduled
for April 1st and 2nd to assist high school students with disabilities.
