Summary of Minutes for April 4, 2019
1. CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Laura Commons called the meeting to order at 5:01 p.m.

2. REQUESTS AND APPROVALS FOR EXCUSED ABSENCES – None
3. APPROVAL OF REGULAR MEETING MINUTES OF 1.10.19

4. PUBLIC COMMENTS (LIMITED TO 3 MINUTES) –
Hope Frances Rangel, Business Services Manager at Workforce Solutions of the
Coastal Bend spoke to the Commission regarding their Summer Earn and Learn
program designed to help find employment opportunities for students with disabilities.
5. PRESENTATIONS:
A. Orlando Salazar, Director for Student Support Services, CCISD
Mr. Salazar discussed the CCISD policies addressing bullying of District students
and prevention efforts used to promote freedom from bullying and freedom from
discrimination, harassment and retaliation in the district schools. A handout was
provided, and Mr. Salazar answered questions from the members.
B. Melanie Gomez & Jennifer Fehribach, RTA
Ms. Gomez and Ms. Fehribach provided an overview of the services that RTA
provides for citizens with disabilities. B-Line service eligibility requirements, travel
training and bus amenities were discussed

C. Update on Citizens Alliance for Fairness and Progress – April Bassett
Ms. Bassett said she would attend the meeting today and provide an update at the
May meeting.
6. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS
A. Housing Subcommittee – Linda Cantu provided a handout and commented on
the Corpus Christi and Nueces County Housing Reports for February 2019. Nora
Mireles reported on the March 2019 rental dwellings market and provided a
handout. (Copies of the handouts are attached to the Minutes.)
B. Committee for Persons with Disabilities – Mr. Balli reported on the ADA citation
count for March 2019, the Life After Graduation event on April 1st and 2nd and future
outreach opportunities.
C. Education Subcommittee – No update
7. HUMAN RELATIONS ADMINISTRATOR’S REPORT – The Performance Report
with March 2019 statistics was handed out. (A copy of the report is attached to the
Minutes.)
8. CHAIRPERSON’S REPORT - Mrs. Commons did not have a report.
A. Round Table Information - Mr. Coleman passed out information related to the
Coastal Bend Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 15th at Cole Park. He
suggested a table or booth at the event to make the community more aware of
the Commission. (A copy of the handout is attached to the Minutes.)
B. Requests for reappointment consideration for terms expiring 6.14.19 – Dr.
Benibo was undecided, Linda Cantu and Dr. Roy Stock are interested in
reappointment and Maria Rodriguez was not present at the meeting.
9. Identify Items to be placed on next Agenda
• Update on the Hillcrest relocation project
• RTA on why priority seating on buses not enforced
• Vision Department of CCISD on use of audible crosswalks
• Citizens Alliance for Fairness and Progress
10. ADJOURNMENT
