Mr. Morrison stated that commissioners should have their nominations and
supporting documentation submitted by mid-August; which would give the
committee an opportunity to meet and discuss the nominations and formulate a
recommendation for the August meeting. The committee should meet before
the Landmark Commission's meeting because the commission has to approve
the honorees. After further discussion, it was decided the deadline for submittal
of nominees would be Thursday, August 12, 2010. The information would be
submitted to Ms. Laura Commons.
Mr. Morrison continued that normally when a recommendation was submitted,
background materials should also be submitted and based on the information
submitted will determine which project will be recommended.
Overview of Landmark Commission
Mr. Thompson stated the information regarding the commission could be found
on the City of Corpus Christi's website at the following link: cclandmarks.org. The
website also contains the City's Mission Statement.
Unified Development Code:
Mr. Andrew Dimas, Staff Liaison, stated that the timeline for approval of the
document has been delayed and placed on hold. Currently, staff is working on passing
ordinance amendments for "signage" and "trash dumpsters." A moratorium has been
issued for the dumpster/screening. Mr. Dimas continued that the only subcommittee still
working as part of the UDC is Base Zoning.
Mr. Thompson asked if the "HC" section would be tied in with any other section
and Mr. Dimas answered that the "HC" overlay district would be tied to the base
zoning, but the other facets would be as the commission outlined. Mr. Thompson asked
if some of the other items could be placed in the current ordinance if the UDC does not
move forward and Mr. Dimas answered there were several articles have been
completed and forwarded to city legal staff for review; but their review has been
placed on hold. Staff initially thought the entire document could be passed instead of
being piece meal, but everything has changed.
Preservation Involvement:
• Landmark Commission Website
Current website information is over 15 years old and it needs to be updated.
Several structures should be added to it, i.e. Sherman Building, the Glen
Peterson's structures.

markers that could be incorporated in a map;
