VI. Director’s Report
• Nina Nixon-Méndez gave Commissioners an overview of San Antonio’s’ National Registered District
initiative in which most of their Downtown area was designated as a registered historic district. The
initiative was supported by the City of San Antonio, who hired a consultant and used funds from the San
Antonio Conservation Society. The goal for the designation is to create tax credit projects in San Antonio.
• Ms. Nixon-Méndez suggested the Commission consider designating an area in Corpus Christi as a
nationally registered historic district, possibly Uptown or Downtown.
• Ms. Nixon-Méndez gave a brief overview of items covered in the Real Places conference held earlier in

entertainment, not education.
