Freeman Dr. Bryan Stone Kathleen de la Garza STAFF: Andrew Dimas, Project Manager; Kristy Glick, Recording Secretary; Nina Nixon -Mendez, Assistant Director of Development Services Call to Order: 4:30pm Roll Call COMMISSIONERS: Ernest Bert Rucker Dr. Christine Robbins Randy J. Dees, Sr. Monica Rawlings Members present: Jillian Becquet, Ernest Bert Rucker, Dr. Christine Robbins, Dr. Ira J. Freeman (4:45pm), Randy J. Dees, Sr., Dr. Bryan Stone, Kathleen de la Garza Members absent: Craig Thompson, Monica Rawlings III. Approval of Minutes: August 22, 2019 Meeting • It was pointed out Ira Freeman's name was misspelled in one instance. Bryan Stone moved to approve the minutes with the correction to Dr. Freeman's name; Randy Dees seconded. Motion passed unanimously. IV. Discussion and Possible Action: Old Bayview Cemetery Update — Karen Howden, Friends of the Old Bayview Cemetery Association, gave an update on the organization's activities. On October 12 they plan to straighten two large stones; November 9 is the 10th annual Voices of South Texas Old Bayview Cemetery Comes Alive with storytellers and costumed historic persons, and an historic marker dedication for Tom Nolan; a National Historic Landmark Designation is in the works for the cemetery Committee Updates — Historic Preservation Plan Committee: Conference call to discuss next steps; the existing HPP is still in effect, but requires updates due to state legislation and the current Development Services agenda; Ms. Nixon - Mendez recommended applying for a CLG grant to pay for a consultant to work on the plan and said she will contact the Texas Historical Commission about local CLG training in the near future. V. Director's Report • Ms. Nixon -Mendez introduced the ACM over Development Services, Steve Viera. He thanked the commissioners for their work and offered his support for the commission. VI. Items to be scheduled on the next agenda • The possibility of rescheduling the November and December meetings away from the holidays.
