DISCUSSION ITEMS:
Follow-up on Proposed New Bus Facility: Ms. Faryce Goode-Macon, Staff
Liaison, addressed the commission. Ms. Macon stated that from the
information she received, the engineering firm of Govind & Associates
could possible be the consultant for the project. Ms. Macon continued that
as of today's meeting, the property had not been purchased for the bus
facility site and nothing definite had been decided. Ms. Macon stated that
as information is provided, she would update the commission.
Mr. Phillips asked Ms. Macon if federal funds would be used to demolish the
existing building and Ms. Macon answered that if the structure is listed on
the historical survey site, the Landmark Commission would be notified of
any pending demolition requests.
Follow up On Historical Web Site: Ms. Macon referenced the handout of the
web site pages. Ms. Macon stated she has been working with Farenthold
Consulting in providing needed text and pictures in designing the web site.
Ms. Macon continued that the web site would include sites identified
throughout the city of Corpus Christi as well as Nueces County with maps
and pictures of the sites. Ms. Macon requested commissioners to review
what has been done on the web site and at the next meeting, provide
comments or submit any items they felt should be added. After Ms. Macon
concluded her update, the floor was opened for questions and comments.
Mr. Phillips asked if the maps matched with the historical markers and Ms.
Macon answered no because most of the markers were outside the city
limits. The only site in Nueces County added was located on Violet Road
and site of the St. Nicholas Church. Ms. Macon added that no space was
included on the web site for archeological markers during this phase, nor
was there specific space for markers during this phase. Ms. Macon
continued there are other items and points of interest that were included.
After further discussion, commissioners asked Ms. Macon to request the
consultant to use a larger font for the text portion and to also change the
title of the web site. No action was taken.
Mr. Phillips informed the commission of a marker dedication ceremony
scheduled for the old Heaton Elementary School in Robstown, Texas, which
was the first school solely for Mexican-American students. The ceremony is
scheduled for November 4, 2000.

commissioners on a tour of various historical sites and to view the
historical plaques that have been installed. Ms. Macon continued that eight
(8) plaques had been installed and the property owners were very satisfied
with the way the plaques were installed. Ms. Macon reminded
commissioners that all of the plaques had not been installed and she did
not know the timeline, since the installations are scheduled when time
permits for the park crews. Ms. Macon continued she hoped that all of the
commissioners would be able to participate in the tour.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:15 p.m.
