were approved as distributed.
DISCUSSION ITEM:
Web Site Preliminary Review: Ms. Faryce Goode-Macon, Staff Liaison, addressed the
commission. Ms. Macon stated that she is still working with the consultant on the web site,
but overall the web site is almost complete. Ms. Macon stated she wanted the commission
to review what had been done and she requested the consultant to put together a few
sites with pictures and narrative for the commission to review. Ms. Macon went on to say
that what would be shown was an example of what the site would look like. Ms. Macon
stated there are still concerns with the street mapping part of the web site. The streets are
not depicting their locations in relation with the city. Ms. Macon stated to the commission
that during the review, if there was anything that needed to be changed, commission
members should let her know so that the appropriate corrections could be made. At this
point, Ms. Macon began the review of the web site. The structure selected for review was
the Centennial House. The existing picture showed restoration in progress on the house
with the scaffolding in place. A final picture will be taken after the restoration is completed
and it will be included. Other sites followed in the review. After review of the web site, the
floor was opened for comments and questions.
Several commission members stated they were very excited about the web site and what if
offers to the local community as well as to other cities. Ms. Macon stated she would request
the consultant to add a "next" button make browsing through the web site easier rather
than using the "back" button referring to the index each time. Ms. Macon asked if sound
should be added to the web site, which would indicate browsing from one site to the next,
and if so, what type of sound and it was answered that the sound would be a nice feature,
if possible.

A question was asked why the Galvan House was not referred to as the "French-Galvan"
House and Ms. Macon answered there was an agreement that in any printed format, any
reference to the structure would be referenced as the "Galvan" House only. After further
discussion, no action was taken. Ms. Macon stated that once everything was completed, a
subcommittee would be needed to proofread the verbiage for the web site and if any
commissioner was interested to serve, let her know. After a brief discussion, Ms. Sharon
Brower, Ms. Grandis Lenken, and Mr. Elmon Phillips volunteered to serve on the
subcommittee.
OTHER MATTERS:
Ms. Macon stated she received a phone call from Sharon Chatterton, owner of the property
located on Oak Park Street and listed as a"potential landmark: Ms.Chatterton wants to apply for a
change of zoning to receive "HC overlay zoning. Ms. Macon continued as in the past, the
application fee was normally waived when the Landmark Commission submitted the application.
Ms. Macon stated an application packet had been sent to Ms. Chatterton and the application will be
presented at the next meeting.
Ms. Macon informed commission members she received correspondence from David Seiler,
City Traffic Engineer, regarding an upcoming application for a street name change. The application
request is to change a portion of Ocean Drive to Shoreline Boulevard. Mr. Phillips commented that
he did not see a problem with the request for the name change. The change would clear up
confusion on that portion of the street and also the request would not can an impact since both
streets are relatively modern. After a brief discussion, no action was taken.
Mr.Phillips informed commission members that he was concerned that the Caller Times had
removed Murphy Givens' column. Mr. Givens is not receiving support of his column and it seems
that no one is saying anything regarding the absence of it. Mr. Phillips continued that Mr. Givens'
column was very informative and supportive of local historical concerns and Issues. Mr. Phillips
urged commissioners to sent a letter to Larry Rose, Editor of the Caller Times, In support of Mr.
Givens' column being continued and stating he was doing a great job with the historical column.
Mr. Phillips went on to say that if something Is not done, the column will be lost permanently. Mr.
Phillips stated he tried on several occasions to get Mr. Givens recognized by the Texas Historical
Commission based on articles that he wrote.
Mr. Kreneck stated given the current ownership, he would like to know whether the
decision to remove or continue certain columns were made here at the local level or somewhere
else. Mr. Phillips commented that he wrote a letter to Mr. Rose requesting this information, but Mr.
Rose answered no to the request. Mr. Phillips continued that Mr. Givens' column is a very important
resource to the community and we need to make sure that It is not lost.
Mr. Phillips asked Staff to inquire about a house located at 435 Paloma Street. Mr. Phillips
continued he was told that at one time, the house was an old farmhouse and it was moved from
Ocean Drive to its present location.
Ms. Macon informed commission members that there are several vacancies that need to be
filled on the commission and staff is working on getting them filled. Ms. Geraldine McGloin was
sent an application and also Bunny Tinker is interested in being appointed back to the Commission.
Hopefully, several appointments will be made within the next month.
