The mission 0fthe Center iebm meet the social, recreational and educational needs Vfadult members iO8O environment that |s fun, safe and inclusive and courteous for all members and guests. Currently have 270 members on a daily basis that come eat and converse with neighbors. Weekly about 45O participate in a wide range Vfprograms, classes and recreational activities. Recreational activities, Health-Wellness activities, speakers and support groups. Activities for remainder of2811 include Garden Tour, Week without Violence presentation byAPS.Rummage sale, Halloween Party and dance, Memory screening and Thanksgiving Dinner and Dance, Christmas Dinner and party. Monthly Garden groups meet at center too. )- New Business: Presentation- One Away Campaign: Lisa Oliver One Away Campaign iGa grant vu8 received iDpartnershi with the National Council on Aging ho Participate io8 video advocacy campaign tnrecord stories cf older adults, What their challenges are during this economic times. The video we are sharing with the LCSS was done by Lisa Oliver and Sonia Garcia on@ gentleman from Lindo|e Senior Center. The video i8 about the impact Senior Centers have On older adults, they are a safe haven from the cold and heat. Provide them with atleast one hot meal and fellowship. The next video in the works i8 On a lady from Beeville, TX. Show how they impact not only urban but rU[8| SOOOnluOitie8 as well. Elsa Munoz is very proud of the work done by Lisa and Sonia. It was an honor to be included in a national premiere and to have our story told during this meeting, also 8t the time vvovisited with our Representatives in Congress and had an opportunity to leave the video with them and explain to them the efforts about this program. Will follow Upwith local, state, and D@bOnaY representatives and get the message to them. It's kind Of not sure what word to use at a time when most Americans are experiencing the economic struggles that they find themselves iD that vve have eliminated a good portion mf services iO our community for the elderly. Kind of an odd predicament to be in. these decisions were based on real viable tough decisions. I don't regret us making these decisions but also recognizing that the plight of Seniors is not going to get any better and that we need to really evaluate what as a city we are going to do to be 8oK3 that the lives of our elders in our community are protected from not just financial disaster but any medical disasters they may encounter |sVn step away from living alone and maintaining an independent life they worked so hard to try to maintain. Proposal for Holiday Dinner- $15 a person and $20 a guest will be American Bank Center with Center Plate \Ocater. Need $13QD for venue. Can secure sponsors for venue, bingo, dance and for anything else. Budget For dinner is $743 from last year. Each Site C0Um:i| is supposed to develop its own standing rules, Ethel Eyedyis only center to have done so. The workshop will help this process along. LCSS bylaws are going to be revised and at next meeting for your vote. Revising the membership outline also, tob8 added will beLC88 has the authority over site council elections (that will beC|GrUh8d). Texercise program overview: proposing thHLCSS endorse. The lay leaders from LC8S and different senior centers will be identified to in|UateTexe[cise in the Senior Centers. Site Council election process many issues came up to be clarified. One objective to solidify election process oovve will be ready |D2O13. Site Council President welcomed the LC88 members. The mission ofthe Garden Senior Center i8to meet the social, recreational and educational needs of adult members inan environment that is fun, safe and inclusive and courteous for all members and guests. Ve will capture the challenges and struggles that seniors are facing during this economic times. The video vwe are sharing with the UC8Swas filmed bvLisa Oliver and Sonia Garcia and features a member from Lindale Senior Center. The video highlights the impact Senior Centers have on older adults. Senior Centers are a safe haven from the cold and heat and provide them with at least one hot meal and fellowship. The next video vme are preparing will feature a |GUy from Beeville, Texas. We will show how they impact not only urban but rural communities as well.
