Iw- The Meeting was called to order at 3:35 p.m. by Billy Ray Sayles, Chairperson

Roll call was conducted b*iAlvanadn-Hnbbn Secretary. Members present: A. Martinez, [\ Lewis, B.R. Smvles,
V. Gerza, O. K8mb:hker, H, Lopez, iAlvamadc+Hobbs.and E. Savoy.
K. K8utnhler, P. Byrd, B. Rye, W. Hardeman. and J. Villanueva were absent. M. Rivera resigned.
m~ Attendance Issues ~J. Villanueva - 4 absences. E. KAuhoz ebytad that per the attendance policy wewill notify
the City Secretary's office advising that he has not met attendance requirements, Ms. Martinez states he has a
conflict with his job and the meeting schedule. B. R. Say|ea stated they will continue 10 try to make contact with
J. Villanueva.

Minutes from the June 7.2O12 meeting were distributed for review. A motion was made bvE. Savoy and hwas
seconded bv Mrs. Martinez hoapprove the minutes. The motion was unanimously approved.
Do- Senior Center State of the Address:
k8r. A. Hoodyevva|oomad everyone to the Ovaa| Williams Senior Center. He reports that the center has been
open only 1& hours a week for the past year. He stated that the reduced hours nf operation creates mnegative
effect when they close at2:U0PM everyday of the week except on Thursdays when they close at1:OO. He feels
that this has impacted the morale of the center members. He shared that they have continued the
intergonenationm| programs and partnerships with Booker T. Washington Head Start students and Bethune
Daycare children.
The question was raised, "Has attendance increased in the past year?" He responded that there have been
deaths in the past year that have effected their numbers. However, the event ot the American Bank Canter
brought in two new members just in the last couple ofdays. Mr. HouUya mentioned that they are always seeking
to increase their membership. Connie Reoohman, Nutrition Program Director reports that meal program units
have increased in the past year. She also stated that there has not been a month without a new member being
added bo their roster. There were at least 10 new members in the last month. Current census range anywhere
from 50-80. 8C8 staff will revisit all senior center census records to evaluate status of most active sites and
consider changes in hours ufoperation. They will bo reviewing meal counts and participation.

The City Secretary's office has recommended realignment nfthe Community at Large LCSG position for Mr,
8ay|oa to Direct 8emioa Agency representative. This change would allow for the appointment of Mrs. Margaret
Hawkins into the Community at Large designation. Mr. SuNma agreed [o realign his position and endorsed the
change in designation. A motion was made by D Lewis and seconded by A. Martinez. The motion was
unanimously approved.

Funding and Resource/Special Events:

Mutuhler stated that there was oMU o |o( of work to be done with the Harvest Moon Ball which is scheduled for
October 8.2Q12� Al the present time, six sponsorship tables have been sold. The goal ioto secure sponsorship
for fifteen baNmn. LCSS members are encouraged ho seek sponsors for the event. The LC88 is hosting this
event and LCGS member participation iecritical. Individual tickets are $75.QQ per person.
Enoch Maldonado, Outreach worker for Meals on Wheels, and coordinator for the 2012 Cool Corpus Christi Fan
Drive provided a project status report. The drive begun with a Kick-off Dance on May 1. 2012 at the Linde1e
Senior Center. The updated information ismnfollows:
• Kick-off Dance (generated $247indonations)
• Northwest Senior Center distribution site -22 fans were donated by community members
• VVeU&1ed Employees donated $325
• VVeUPN*d Management donated $5U0
• Amigos Equipment donated 1O0fans
Fans have been distributed aafollows:
* 43 fans delivered to Meals OnWheels clients
° 73 fans distributed to Senior Center members
* 12 fans delivered hz community otlarge (by request)
* 25 fans were distributed to the Housing Authority
A total of 262 fans have been collected. There are still 89 fans on hand from the Amigos donation pending
distribution. E. K8uRoz reports 50 fans will be donated to the Silver Room at Adult Pmobaotwa Services. AP8
requested support this year, as they did last year. It was suggested that "thank you" note should be sent to
Stan Brewer sd Amigos Equipment for their generous donation.
E.Nuhoz: Aging Friendly Communities
A community assessment is being conducted to determine how "age friendly" the city is. They are evaluating
areas such ao transportation, housing, health services, etc. The information will be collated and submitted hzthe
state. They will determine if the city meets the criteria of being designated an "age friendly" community. Corpus
Christi is ahead of everyone else in completing the survey and therefore would bo the first ho be designated as
an "age h1end|v^ community in the state. The report will be available hm view when completed. Service indicator
surveys and discussions are being held at different locations throughout the city. The public will have the
opportunity to provide input during these evaluations, Notice of the next evaluation will beema||ed to LCG8
members
C.kAub:h|er Senior Pageant
LuzPeUKier Ms. Coastal Bend Senior, will compete at the Ms. Texas Senior Pageant in Frisco, Texas onAugust
11 2012. The question was posed by E. Savoy, "what can we do to support her"? It was mentioned that one
could purchase o plane duko[ pay for her hotel, or buy her o new outfit for the Pageant. The Me. Coastal Bond
Pageant Steering Committee awards a $500 voucher to offset hotel and travel expenses. |( was also mentioned
that the Crown Club provides support for expenses.
C. W1utuh|er: S{)5 Caregiver Center mtthe Linda|o Senior Center
W1a. W1ufioz announced that Mary Ann N1nndnagon has been hired as the new Caregiver Specialist for the SOS
Caregiver Center at the Linda|e Senior Center. Ms. K&ondnagon invited everyone to the Grand Opening of the
SOS Center onAugust 10, 2012 from 1:08-3:00 in the dining nouno. She mentioned that the center was the first
of its kind in the city, The SOS Center ioa partnership between the CihISCS. Face to Face (Dr. Nestor H.
Prmdariu) and the VVeUKAed Charitable Foundation. The SOS Caregiver Center will be o resource and neharna|
center for caregivers of those with Alzheimer's and other chronic diseases. Roundtable discussions will boheld
twice month with a maximum of 10 people mtmtime.
C.YWuhzh|er Age of Champions Documentary
The documentary features senior athletes and illustrates the will and determination of older adults. The movie
promotes a vary positive image of aging. N dispels the myth that once you get gray hair. you don't contribute
much. This is on inspirational film which highlights what can be done with good health, active lifestyle and
staying engaged in your community, Reliant Energy will sponsor community event 0o include the premiere of
the Age of Champions. The hop* is that in one to three years, Corpus Christi would be able to host the Texas
Senior Olympics.
Proclamation Reading: The Grandparents and other Relatives Raising Grandchildren proclamation iSscheduled
on Tuesday atnoon on September 11. 2012. at City Council Chambers. Members are asked to support the
proclamation reading in September.
Veteran's Day Celebration: The subcommittee is aaeh|nQ ideas and suggestions for a community wide
celebration.

2012 Holiday Dinner This event will take place on Thuruday. December 13. 2012. from 2:00 PM ' 7:00 PM at
the American Bank Center. Doors will open at 1:00 PM. Ninfa ChaweoavNU be mailing out sponsorship
packet, A $7.00 ticket price for senior center members has been recommended by the subcommittee.
Pro Operations Committee:
Proposed Senior Center Membersh Fee: T subcommittee recommends that all senior members be
informed of the LCSS's decision to not endorse 8 Senior Center membersh fee edthe present time contingent
on levels of City funding for the Senior Centers. The FY 13 funding levels remain current with FY 12 levels,
Speni§oa|ky, there were no cuts h7 Senior Pnngmomo in FY 13. The Senior Center membership fee proposal will
be reviewed again as determined by FY 14 budget impacts, Mr, Sayles said to make sure we revisit this topic.
The Program Operations and Program Evaluation Committee are both working onaTown Hall meeting. Mo.
N1uOoz suggested that the subcommittees work jointly on this project. We should communicate an open
invdobontothegenena|pub|ichoprmvidefeedbockontheGeniorCentemsofhodaymndGeninrCent8raofthe21
century. How can vve attract and support new members in the future? Perhaps v*e can even change the "Senior
Center" name. Feedback from the public suggests the name "Senior Center" has a negative undertone as some
do not consider themselves seniors. The centers would serve the same purpose, but just have a different name.
D. Lewis stated that the weekly distribution of the Island yWoVm newspaper would be a very good venue to get this
information out to the public and that the column deadline is midnight Sunday for Thursday distribution. This is
free Vfcharge. Any announcements and pictures are welcome.
Disciplinary Commiffee: D. Lewis reported on the status ofa review cf the Greenwood Senior Center incident,
|t was conveyed that the particular incident ia over and done with. The incident iuclosed.

The subcommittee commended (]veal VVi||oimm Senior Center for maintaining their members' nutrition program
|eva|a despite the reductions in center hours of operation. There have been complaints at Liodayo that food is
either overcooked nrundercooked. A tour of the Nutrition Education Service Center (where meals are produced)
can be scheduled with Connie Reachmon, A meal will be reserved for you and she will give you a tour nfthe
facility.
E. Savoy reports that response has been good for the change in milk from 2% to 961 Most people have said
they could not tell the difference in taste and it has been accepted well.

Connie Reschman reported for E. K8w0nz who was excused from the meeting for another oppoinhnenL Me.
RaechrnanmdNwedibat applications were received for the 1g-hoUr laborer part-time position as well as the Sr.
Account Clerk position. Interviews will be set up for hire. Supervisors will be reviewing applications for the
custodial position and should be filling those positions within the next 2-3 weeks,
Repairs were made hn the food steamer ed the Central Kitchen. The dishwasher has malfunctioned and owork
order for repairs will be requested.
C.Resommn reviewed the Program Performance Report and noted that there are there are still 2 months left on
the FY 12 contract. Meal number units showed o slight decrease in June. Home delivered meal service was
initiated for one hundred clients that had been on the interest list for 2011. Some of these clients will beserved
on a temporary basis. The new interest list for 2012, for people requesting services, stands at 85.

As previously reported, we have been exploring outsourcing options for our kitchen operations in consideration of
cost and efficienny. SCG staff and the [:it/a Purchasing Department are finalizing the review and
recommendation of bid proposal from a non-profit organization. A status report will be provided at the next

M[ Hondve asked what would become of the employees if oUbsVuKjmg is a more cost effective measure. He
asked if City employees keep their jobs or if the would they be NN. C. Rnschmmn stated that the new
company will hire them if no positions are available to them throughout the city.
