Alvarado-Hobbs, Secretary, Members present: A. K0artioaz, P. Byrd, D. Lewis, B.R. Saves. V. Garza, C. K8uh:hler, K PNutohhar, H. Lopez. i Alvarado-Hobbs, and E Savoy. B. Rye, NLHarden1an.K8. Hawkins, A. Lee and J. Villanueva were absent. The City Secretary's Office will be notified that Mr. Villanueva has had 5 absences and Mr. Hardeman has had Jabsences. Mrs. Garza asked about the status of Mrs. Margaret Hawkins membership. Ms. Munoz advised that Mrs. Hawkins was finally appointed to the LCSS following several delays due to the City Council calendar. City Council also appointed Mrs. Anne Lee in August. Mrs. Lee is currently unable to attend due tVillness. 10- Approval of Minutes Minutes from the August 2, 2012 meeting were distributed for review. A motion was made by E. Savoy and it was seconded by V. Garza to approve the minutes. The motion was unanimously approved, lo� Senior Center State of the Address Mr. Curtis Ford, President of Ethel Eyerly Site Council welcomed everyone to the Ethel Eyerly Senior Center. Mc Food along with assistance from Mr. Lewis conducted m PovuerPnint presentation nn activities held at the center including Site Council, VVii, Table Tennis (new), Chair Volleyball, Computer Interest Group, Dinner Dances, Bingo, Art Class, Food Bank, Silver Haired Fitness, Zumba Gold, and Special Events throughout the year. Also, the current Ms. Coastal Bend Senior, Luz Pelletier is a member at Ethel Eyedy. He also presented a financial statement and a list of daily activities conducted at the center. Mr. Ford complimented Deborah Henry for doing a great job with the Site Council and the center. Mr. Sayles commented that is serious business that the center is conducting. He stated that of all of the reports he has heard from centers Ethel Eyerly is one of the best. Mr. Sayles applauded B. Rye, C. Ford, Ms. Coastal Bend, D. Lewis and now E. Savoy for the fine workthat they are doing in outreach out in the community. He said, "we talked earlier about disseminating what we do and that's one way of getting out into the oonmmun|ty°. 0 , 11 3 ro-gram Operations * Senior Center Membership Fees: This item will be reviewed again for FY 2013 based on input � The 19 Hour Nutrition Sites will be evaluated on an annual basis to measure levels of senior center member satisfaction, center schedules, and member census future implications on hours of operation. 01� Fundin & Resources/Special Events • The master Calendar was reviewed and updated. • Supervisory Staff will be attending the SCS HICAP (Health Information and Counseling Advocacy Program) Training for Benefits Counseling I & 11 Certification. LCSS Member support at Centers during training would be helpful. • The Harvest Moon Ball will be held on October 6, 2012 at the Corpus Christi Town Club. A proposal to sell Harvest Moon Ball placards was endorsed. Harvest Moon Ball Placards will be sold for $1 before and during the event and placed on the Senior Center glass panes and walls. This project was developed to allow our members to have some level of support and involvement for the Harvest Moon Ball. The LCSS members are the "Host" for the Harvest Moon Ball fundraiser. It is essential that all LCSS members attend the event and secure silent auction items. Harvest Moon Ball is the signature event and full participation from LCSS members is very important. • It was suggested to encourage each center to "sponsor" one representative to attend the event. A recommendation was made to have each host a raffle to raise money to purchase a ticket to the Harvest Moon Ball event. • A Welcome to Medicare and Open Enrollment event will be held on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 from 7:30 am to 13:30 pm at the DIVIC Economic Development Center. • E. Munoz and N. Chavera are coordinating a senior trip to Winstar Casino in Oklahoma and L'Auberge Casino in Lake Charles, Louisiana. • The Annual Holiday Dinner will heheld Thursday, December EL2012 from 2lNp.m.-7:Q0p.m. at American Bank Center. Sponsorship packets have already been sent out. Tickets are $7for Senior Center members and $10 for guests. The fun-filled afternoon will include Dinner, Live band, dancing, door prizes, Bingo, and m tree forest contest. • Mrs. Luz Pelletier (Ms. Coastal Bend 2012) attended the Ms. Texas Senior Pageant in Frisco, Texas. She did not place but gained great experience. • The 2012 Fall Community Festival will be held on September 22, 2012 at Cole Park from 6:00 pm � Age Well — Live Well; Finding Peace of Mind is a community education program initiated by Ms. Munoz following the suicide ofa Senior Center member. The topic will focus onanxiety, depression and suicide among the elderly. Long range goals include other community forums on mental health issues; establishing a Peer to Peer support group and developing or emulating model programs to increase public awareness about these issues. This event will be co-hosted by SCS, Dr. Praderio's Face to Face Program, Coastal Bend Caregiver Coalition and Family Counseling Services. 10 Program Evaluations Mr. Savoy reported that overall 90% of the members are satisfied and 10% are unsatisfied with what they are getting to eat and noted that levels of satisfaction are increasing. The oven fried chicken has received overwhelming reviews. Mrs. Martinez reported receiving a total of 269 comment cards. She stated that mostly all were favorable for the new chicken item, but with pricing going up the next dish might be chicken casserole. There were no unsatisfied comment cards for the month for any centers. The site supervisors have been meeting their goals with health department regulations. All centers have received good ratings except for one center that has a few marks. Mrs. Martinez concluded that there were not many complaints for this reporting period. • Mr. Lewis advised that the consensus of the committee isto host anAdHoc/71 Century Senior Center Town Hall meeting at Ethel Eyerly, Northwest and Lindale Senior Centers, We will solicit citizen feedback on current and future programming. • Mr. Lewis announced opportunities for future articles and announcements in the Island Moon Newspaper. Mr. Lewis is the Editor for the "Senior Moments" Articles. Ill- Old Business None * SCS Division Repo • Elsa Munoz commended the Northwest Senior Center on their Newsletter coordinated by Mrs. Patsy Matjek and her daughter. She encouraged other Senior Centers to develop strategies (newsletter, radio shows, Face book, etc.) which promotes positive community awareness about their respective centers and increases membership. • Zavala Operations currently closed due to facility repairs. The center will reopen on Monday, September 17,2012. • The Federal grant year begins October 1,lO12. • The NESC Dishwasher repairs are pending due to outstanding bid proposals. • Connie Reschman reviewed the Program Performance Report. We expect to meet all 2012 contract levels. • The Texas Department of Agriculture Grant will be finalization by November 1, 2012 for FY14 funds. • Ms. Munoz reports that vacancies are on the decrease. Our goal is to have 100% staffing by Christnnas, � Agenda Items for October 2012 Meeting • Lindale Site Council "status". It was reported to be inactive. Ms. Munoz clarified that the Lindale Site Council may not be functioning at100% but are still considered active. • FY13 City Budget Review No. Public Comment * Adjournment None The meeting was adjourned at 4:45 p.m.
