HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Leadership Committee For Senior Services - 04/02/2015 Leadership Committee for Senior Services (LCSS) Meeting Minutes Thursday, April 2, 2015 Broadmoor Senior Center ►The meeting was called to order at 3:35 pm by I Hobbs, LCSS Chairperson. ►Roll Call Roll Call was conducted by E. Flores. Members present: G. Bryant, E. Flores,T. Garcia, W. Hardeman, 1. Hobbs, R. Irwin, E. Lopez,V. Salinas, E. Savoy,A. Woolsey, D. Villagran Members absent: A. Cabral, C. Canales, G. Gooding,A. Martinez E. Flores reported attendance issues with A. Cabral,with four absences. 1. Hobbs recommended reporting the attendance issue to City Secretary office for further assistance. ►Approval of Minutes The March 5, 2015 meeting minutes were reviewed. E. Savoy made a motion to approve the meeting minutes, R. Irwin seconded the motion. All approved. None opposed. ► New Business None ► LCSS Subcommittee Session/Project Status Reports A. Development&Special Events- E. Flores reported the subcommittee would continue: • Calendar updates for the next quarter include: • Aug 21- Friends & Family Caregiver Festival from 8-2p. • Sept 23-Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Festival from 8-1p • Sept 26 or Oct 23- Harvest Moon Ball 6-11p (Tentative date) E. Flores asked for Harvest Moon Ball 2014 Financial Report • Dec 10-Annual Holiday Dinner 7a-3p Committee requested the number of attendees and financial report for previous Holiday Dinners in order to decide whether to have this event in the future. • Strategic Plan for promoting senior centers: E. Flores reported the Development&Special Events Subcommittee is tentatively working on planning a celebration for members 90+. • Promotional booths are underway, G. Bryant booked a table at the Art Walk and Bridge Walk. Brochures and Flyers will be needed for these events. • Promoting via service organizations, R. Irwin will be contacting non-profits/clubs to present at their meetings. He also plans on disseminating literature to the Human Resource Departments of several organizations. 1. Hobbs suggested the subcommittee also try other strategies that target 50+ age group, as well as older seniors, in order to be all inclusive. • Enhancing the website/social media/internet, L. Oliver reported that all sites have fiber optic connectivity, some sites have wi-fi. She stated she could supply a list of sites with wi-fi hotspots. E. Flores stated she would contact Sonia in order to proceed with enhancements. B. Program Evaluations- H. Lara reported the subcommittee discussed: • Comment Cards reflected seniors concerns about not having a Building and Grounds/Custodian at all locations. They also comment about the Enchiladas. C. Reschman explained this item is scheduled to be replaced with another item in the next quarter. • Upcoming Classes: Boomer Fit Camp targeting Baby Boomers. • Researching and soliciting information for field trips • Hospitality Ambassador Program has been launched. The vests have been ordered,when they arrive,Ambassadors will be re-trained, as well as,training a new group. C. Program Operations- D. Villagran stated the subcommittee would work on: • Soliciting equipment inventory, identifying wellness equipment, and obtaining wish lists from the Centers. Last Friday was the deadline from the centers. Marianna is gathering that info. An update will be available by next meeting. • An accreditation meeting has taken place.There are 9 standards to be documented in order for a center to become accredited. The subcommittee is currently reviewing the criteria to determine which of the standards have been completed,which have not, and areas of responsibility. Once there is a timeline,then the committee can submit an intent to become accredited. • Name change recommendation has been approved by the committee and is now being reviewed by the City of Corpus Christi, Park& Recreation, marketing staff. Marketing is in the final stages, a few changes may be made in order to fit the verbiage on signage, but the 50+ message will remain part of the new branding strategy. • D. Villagran reported that the research feasibility of partnering with the local university for interior facility renovations is in the process for next semester. W. Hardeman is working with Del Mar and Marianna is working with TAMUCC to see if an agreement can be reached in order to accomplish this goal. • Proposed Resolution to City Council,this item will be tentatively,worked into the WellMed presentation on May 12th. L. Oliver will give update at next meeting. • Site Council Elections Update,there were four senior centers eligible to host a Site Council. Northwest, Garden and Greenwood Senior Centers have submitted written requests and been approved to change from Site Council to Special Event Committee. Ethel Eyerly had 9 nominees and since that was the required number of members,they only need to elect officers for the Site Council. ► SCS Division program updates A. General Highlights- L. Oliver spoke of the WCF Joint-Use agreement and the proposed date to appear before City Council on May 12th. City Budget Preparations have begun for the new fiscal year,which starts October 2015. C. Reschman will be working on the Request For Proposal for the Elderly Nutrition Program. Senior Center maintenance issues have arisen due to heavy rains, however those issues are being addressed as they become known. L. Oliver announced that we recently celebrated Community Champions Day in observance with Meals on Wheels America Program. Mayor Martinez and Council Member, McIntyre accompanied a driver to one of the home delivered meals participants. Additional information was provided about the Virtual Dementia Tour and Stress Busting Program for Family Caregiver. B. Senior Center Operations- H. Lara reported the plumbing and A/C issues have been addressed. Several staff assistant vacancies have been filled and a few custodial vacancies will be posted. Risk Management has visited the Senior Centers for a yearly inspection. There were a few areas for improvements but overall was a positive report. H. Lara recognized the Greenwood Senior Center for hosting a mock Kentucky Derby. Lindale Senior Center also partnered with TAMUCC/Big Event and 15 student volunteers to clean the grounds & paint offices. In addition TAMUCC, Senior Community Services reached out to Home Depot in order to paint a senior member's home. C. Program Performance Reviews-C. Reschman reported that Senior Community Services was working on negotiations for the Youth Summer Feeding Program. Several positions are available: part-time cook, part-time laborer and part-time staff assistant. Positions close next week. She also informed the committee she will be attending the Meals On Wheels Conference in Galveston. ►Items for next Agenda None ►Public comments None ►Adjournment 9 The meeting adjourned at 4:35 pm.
