Villagran, LCSS Chairperson. ►Roll Call Roll Call was conducted by C. Rodriguez. Members present: G. Bryant, E. Flores,W. Hardeman, R. Irwin, E. Savoy, D. Villagran, S. Fierro,J. Garcia and P. Lewis Members absent: R. Buckwalter(resigned), P. O'brien,T. Garcia,Y. Recio, and J. Lawrence (All Excused) ►Approval of Minutes The meeting minutes from the August 4, 2016 were approved by R. Irwin, second by E. Savoy. All were in favor. ►New Business A. LCSS Member Vacancy D. Villagran reported that R. Buckwalter was resigning from the Advisory Board which will leave two vacancies in Community-At-Large Positions. Ms. Villagran suggested hosting a recruitment dinner. Debbie Crites, Director of the Senior Companion Program, introduced the upcoming 2nd annual From the Pages to the Table Fundraiser event to be held on October 29, 2016 at the American Bank Center.Tables are available to be sponsored and decorated based on books and raffle tickets also available for purchase. ►LCSS Subcommittee Session/Project Status Report A. Development&Special Events—J. Garcia reported upcoming events on calendar: October • 13th—Park and Rec staff Meeting at Ben Garza from 1:30p-4:00p • 15th—Start date for Medicare Enrollment • 15th—Every Body Walk at the Oso Bay Wetlands,walk starts at 7:30a • 17th—Medicare Open Enrollment at Del Mar Economic Center from 8a-4p • 18th—Financial Exploitation Prevention Seminar at Garden Senior Center at 8:30a • 291h—From the Pages to the Table at American Bank Center at 11:00a November • 3rd- LCSS Meeting at Lindale from 3:30-4:30p • 5th—Walk for Memory at Heritage Park at 9:30a • 8th—Veterans Recognition Dinner to be announced • 19th—King Ranch Cowboy Breakfast—Tentative—more details next meeting • 24th-25th_Centers Closed for City Holiday(Thanksgiving) December • 7th-Medicare Open Enrollment ends • 8th—Holiday Gala at American Bank Center- more details next meeting • 91h—Senior Centers Closed due to 4-10 hour shifts in preparation for Holiday Gala • 24th- HEB Feast of Sharing to be announced • 26th &Jan 2nd—Centers Closed at City Holiday(Christmas and New Year's) B. Program Evaluation - E. Savoy reported that 69 responses were received and no complaints other than reports on lack of interest of food served at centers.The Every Body Walk on October 15th will be going on at Oso Bay Wetlands to in courage Baby Boomers participation. Also a new sport called Pickle ball has been introduced to all members that attended the Senior 1 Day at Northwest.The sport will soon be available at all center sites and played by the members on site. C. Program Operations—D. Villagran reported to be waiting for a spreadsheet from L. Oliver regarding assignments for the 21"Century Senior Center plan. A priority for board members to meet about the Accreditation with a set date to be announced by next meeting in November. P. Lewis has been working on a Treasury Audit tool for the volunteers of the special events at the senior centers. P. Lewis has created a letter form informing of the Audit tool and will be given to each special events committee.The letter will include a contact number to be able to get in contact with her and begin introducing the tool. For the special events summit, D.Villagran will be meeting with L. Oliver to discuss possible dates. ►SCS Division program updates A. General highlights—H. Lara reported the Car Fit held at Lindale Senior Center was a successful event.TxDot coordinators were able to certify over 10 technicians and 3 coordinators with 25 vehicles inspected.The "Senior Day at the Park" held at the Northwest Senior Center had over 125 in attendance. Pickle ball and the new outdoor fitness equipment was introduced during the event with great amount of feedback.The Grandparents and Other Relatives Raising Grandchildren Conference was held on September 28th with over 250 in attendance. Oveal Williams members attended the Roy Miller High School Football game at the Buccaneer Stadium,the center has started a new choir as well as a Flu Shot clinic at the facility. A cheer camp is now available at Greenwood Senior Center in hopes to attract more Baby Boomers. B. Senior center operations—H. Lara reported the meal program at Lindale Senior Center has been relocated at the Lindale Recreation Center next door due to the renovations. New roofing and wall painting at Lindale has been completed, currently working on floors.The WeIIMed Wellness Clinic is now available at the Joe Garza Recreation on September 27th meeting with a total of 28 members. Clinic will be open once a month from 8a-10a. ADA improvements made at Greenwood, Ethel Eyerly, Oveal Williams and Lindale Senior Center for sidewalks/walkways, parking lots and drop off areas in time for the early voting going on at the sites. Wall vents have been installed at the Joe Garza Recreation to increase air conditioning into rooms. Partnership signs for Parks & Recreation and WeIIMed have been installed to the Front of the facility as well as in the lobby room.Two new buffers for senior centers have been purchased to improve facility cleanliness. One part time administration position is open online until Friday, October 71n C. Program performance reviews—C. Reschman reported the cargo van is no longer in use, has been swapped out with a different van also having several modifications completed. During the beginning of current week, both delivery trucks went down and have been recently returned the morning of October 6th. Meals were prepared in Oliver Trays and delivered to sites during the van issues to help speed up meal service as needed.The Kitchen Supervisor position has recently become vacant and the position will be posted online soon. Sonia Garza and Lisa Vargas will be rotating monthly as Interim Kitchen Supervisor in the meantime. Home Delivered Meals drivers are needed; a route has been closed minimizing it to 11 routes. Home Instead has made contact for the past 5 years to request names from the homebound clients to be a part of the "Be Assertive to a Senior" project and home delivered meals clients received gifts through the program. As for the holidays, HEB Feast of Sharing will commence in December; details will be discussed soon to review the preparation of the event. Homebound clients receive meals that are prepared out of the central kitchen and delivered by community volunteers. ►Items for next Agenda ►Public comments None. ►Adjournment • The meeting adjourned at 4:10 pm. 2
