HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Leadership Committee For Senior Services - 12/01/2016 Leadership Committee for Senior Services (LCSS) Meeting Minutes Thursday, December 1, 2016 Lindale Senior Center ►The meeting was called to order at 3:35 pm by D. Villagran, LCSS Chairperson. ►Roll Call Roll Call was conducted by T. Garcia. Members present: G. Bryant, E. Flores,T. Garcia,W. Hardeman, R. Irwin, E. Savoy, D. Villagran,J. Garcia, P. O'brien and P. Lewis Members absent: R. Buckwalter(resigned), S. Fierro(Excused),Y. Recio(Excused), and J. Lawrence ►Approval of Minutes The meeting minutes from the October 6, 2016 were approved by E. Savoy, second by R. Irwin. All were in favor. ►New Business A. LCSS Member Vacancy D. Villagran reported two current vacancies and three upcoming vacancies due to end of term for Community At Large. D. Villagran announced the membership recruitment mixer to be held on Thursday,January 26th from S:OOpm-6:30pm with the location to be announced. P. Obrien made a motion to approve of date and time;J. Garcia seconded the motion. All approved. None opposed. B. Proposed Senior Center for RFQ P. Obrien reported the Northwest Senior Center was selected for the RFQ to enhance program activity and increase diversity. B. Irwin made a motion to approve of request; G. Bryant seconded the motion. All approved. None opposed. ►LCSS Subcommittee Session/Project Status Report A. Development&Special Events—E. Flores reported the request to join in on Lindale's Tuesday Night Dance in the month of February. Light refreshments would be prepared and hopes for a Silent Auction. All proceeds would be sent to the MOW program. P. Lewis suggested a possible fundraiser with tickets. B. Irwin agreed to present the request to the special events committee and have an answer by next month's meeting. J. Garcia reported her fundraising proposal for collecting dimes to fill an empty water bottle; raising up to$100 per bottle filled. Proposal was approved for empty bottles to be stationed at each WellMed clinic. E. Flores reported the proposal for holding a dine out event at a local restaurant(Katz 21)to host a fundraiser in possibly the month of May or June. More information on availability dates to come by next meeting in January 2017. B. Program Evaluation—W. Hardeman reported 200 evaluations received; 113 commented positive reports to satisfaction with the services and 11 unsatisfied reports due to missing items requested for meals. Requests have been notated and will be taken into review. Programs to attract the Baby Boomers reported are upcoming aerobics at Lindale Recreation Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays for a fee of$25 monthly with a $10 registration fee and Kickboxing Bootcamp on Mondays and Wednesdays for a fee of$7. Street dance courses available at the Oso Recreation Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Heritage Park will be hosting a Holiday Tamale Instructional Class at the Galvan House on December 3rd with a $10 fee. Upcoming evets and activities to look forward to are as follows: • Every Body Walk at Sacky Park on Saturday, December 101h at 7:30a • 2nd Annual Winter Wonder Ball at American Bank Center—Henry Garrett Ballroom on Friday, Dec. 16th from 3-6p 1 • Kickboxing Bootcamp at Joe Garza Recreation- Free classes for ages 55+, classes are Sponsored by WellMed Charitable Foundation. • After Hours exercise room at Lindale and Garden Senior Centers start in 2017.Training Programs will be offered. C. Program Operations—D. Villagran reported an update on Lindale and Northwest Senior Centers; modifications have been completed. Greenwood S.C. is in process and waiting on the foundation repairs prior to moving forward. Ethel Eyerly, Garden and Oveal Williams Senior Centers are up next for facility improvements after proposal approval. A proposed meeting for senior center accreditation has been requested for a date of Jan. 11, 2017 for all interested members to meet with staff. Meetings are to be scheduled quarterly. P. Lewis reported on the Treasury Audit update; needing one final senior center [Lindale] to meet with to begin processing a guideline; plans to have complete by January 2017. Guidelines will be presented to treasury member on the Special Events Committee. ►SCS Division program updates A. General highlights—L. Oliver reported from the By-Laws the Election of office being held in January and the installment of officers in February of the new year. Having a quorum for the January Advisory meeting is most important for election to be made. Winter Wonder Ball has been scheduled for Dec. 16th combined with the volunteer recognition event with RSVP program. All advisory members are invited to attend. Event is open to the community of 50+. The Benefits Counseling Training will be held on Dec. 13th—15th at the American Bank Center. B. Senior center operations— H. Lara reported a total of 1564 registered for the month of October at the senior centers. Greenwood has 13 registered in youth for the cheerleading program and 123 new registered adults. A report of 24 programs total; 19 free programs and 5 fee based programs. Senior Centers have seen a total of 6,362 in attendance to various activities held at all site and 5 rentals held for the month of October. Facility Improvement Updates: Lindale Senior Center has been completed and members have been invited back into the facility for regular programs. ADA sites have all been completed and facility maintenance has been contacted for heaters at sites to be checks on for the upcoming cool weather. Staffing Update: One Part Time vacancy was reported for the Administrative Support position at Zavala Nutrition Site. Interviews have been made and waiting on feedback through HR.Two full time custodial positions are currently vacant. Positions posted online have recently closed; interviews are to come. C. Program performance reviews/Nutrition Program Operations— C. Reschman will provide monthly outcomes for meals served during next month's meeting. H.E.B will be sponsoring meals for the Home Delivered Meals on December 16th and as well as December 24th for the Feast of Sharing event. Home Instead have been in contact as they prepare for their 4th year of Santa for Senior, where a donation of gifts are received to go out to the homebound clients near Christmas. The vacant position for Kitchen Lead has been posted on online and during the time of vacancy, Lisa Vargas, Lindale Senior Center Lead, has been placed as interim until position is filled. ►Items for next Agenda None. ►Public comments None. ►Adjournment • The meeting adjourned at 4:24 pm. 2
