HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Leadership Committee For Senior Services - 03/01/2018 Leadership Committee for Senior Services (LCSS) Meeting Minutes Thursday, March 1, 2018 Oveal Williams Senior Center ►The meeting was called to order at 3:37 pm by E. Flores, LCSS Vice Chairperson. ►Roll Call Roll Call was conducted by C. Rodriguez. Members present: G. Bryant, E. Flores, P. Lewis,W. Hardeman, Dr. M. Zhao, M. Hansen, G. Berry, K. Heslip, E. Bell, and I. Garcia Members absent:T. Garcia(excused), D. Villagran(excused), P. O'Brien(excused), and K. Diggs(excused) ►Approval of Minutes The meeting minutes for February 1St were approved with the agreement of including the computer deficiency at Ethel Eyerly Center on next month's subcommittee agenda as per G. Berry. Motion made by E. Bell and second by M. Hansen. All were in favor, none opposed. ►New Business A. Member Vacancy Update C. Rodriguez informed committee of 1 vacancy for Community at Large vacancy due to the termination of J. Garcia. As for the vote to bring in G. Wicks to the committee was denied due to G. Wicks recently moving out of city limits for a job opportunity. B. March for Meals Community Champion Week C. Reschman reported the Kick off for March For Meals National Month to begin March 21"with the invitation of Mayor and City Council to come out to deliver meals to homebound clients. Followed by March 22nd with initiation of City Manager and Community supporters and March 23rd with invitation to local mascots as well to deliver meals to homebound clients. Signature event to be held March 24th at Greenwood Center,4040 Greenwood,with the Hamburger Sale and Chili Cookoff from 12pm-4pm. Community is invited to event. ►Old Business A. None ►LCSS Subcommittee Session/Project Status Report A. Development&Special Events—Reported by G. Bryant are the upcoming events for March through May. Mardi Gras—3/3— Recruitment for Sr. Pageant at LD 2-4 pm. C. Rodriguez will send out info for those members that are not familiar with event, 3/2-3/16—Fish Camp at Lindale, 3/21-3/24- March For Meals week,4/5—Next LCSS Meeting at Garden,4/13- First Aid and CPR for staff, 4/16-4/20- Meals On Wheels Conference,4/28—Sr. Prom Tentative, 5/2— Hurricane Conference, 5/3—LCSS Meeting at NW Regular meeting only from 3:30p-4:30p, 5/23 —Cool CC Fan Drive Kick Off at GW. N. Chavera invited members to attend the Hamburger and Chili Cook off event on Saturday, March 24th where pre-sale tickets will be offered prior to the event to help raise funds for the Meals on Wheels program. C. Rodriguez passed out 20 hamburger tickets to all committee members to help raise funds on their behalf. B. Program Evaluation—M. Hansen reported great status overall on comment cards other than rolls reported to be too hard with Greenwood members. An urgency of concern was brought to staff/liaisons of the committee due to irregular comment card left behind by a member of Greenwood center. C. Reschman informed committee that a recap with center leads with be held to address the importance of being alert with all comments being turned in prior to submitting. E. Bell and M. Zhao discussed about getting together with Texas A&M University CC students to develop a system for documenting data for surveys currently being used on both Home Delivered Meal and Congregate clients. Due to the confidentially of the client's medical 1 information subcommittee will need to get with L. Oliver on how to obtain permission from clients to allow students to work on project. C. Program Operations—P. Lewis was unable to report on behalf of subcommittee due to shortage of subcommittee members (only P. Lewis and G. Berry attended for March meeting). Agenda will be reported in next month's meeting,Thursday, March 1, 2018. ►SCS Division program updates A. General highlights—C. Reschman informed all of plans underway to implement the Afterschool Snack Program in partnership with the recreation centers through a Texas Department on Agriculture grant. B. Senior center operations—C. Reschman reported staff to be conducting preliminary work on the Summer Feeding Program which starts June 11th through August 3rd. C. Reschman and Lisa Vargas, Kitchen Lead attended the Summer Feeding Program conference to keep informed of grant requirements. C. Program performance reviews— C. Reschman informed the committee that on Wednesday, March 21th City dignitaries and officials have been invited to come out for March for Meals Community Champion Week and deliver meals to our HDM clients,Thursday, March 22 an invitation has been sent out to our community partners such as HEB, Subaru and WellMed staff; Friday, March 23rd Lisa Oliver has invited high school mascots, along with HEB Buddy and the mascots from the University and Hooks. C. Reschman also invited committee members to participate in the delivery of meals. If interested just notify C. Reschman or C. Rodriguez to add interest on the schedule. ►Items for next Agenda A. Computer deficiency at Ethel Eyerly Center as per G. Berry ►Public comments G. Berry mentioned attending sites for Early Voting registration and League of Woman voters informed him of coverage for registration already being handled at all senior centers. ►Adjournment • The meeting adjourned at 4:40 pm. 2
