HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Leadership Committee For Senior Services - 12/06/20181 Leadership Committee for Senior Services (LCSS) Meeting Minutes Thursday, December 6, 2018 Lindale Senior Center ►The meeting was called to order at 3:32 pm by D. Villagran, LCSS Chairperson. ►Roll Call Roll Call was conducted by C. Rodriguez. Members present: G. Bryant, E. Flores, W. Hardeman, D. Villagran, P. O’Brien, M. Hansen, K. Heslip, E. Bell, K. Diggs, P. Lewis & J. Meehleib Members absent: T. Garcia(Excused) and Dr. M. Zhao(excused) ►Approval of Minutes The meeting minutes for November 1st were then approved by P. Lewis and seconded by J. Meehleib. All were in favor, none opposed. ►New Business A.LCSS Committee Member Vacancy L. Oliver reviewed the 2 vacancies with another 4 possible vacancies in the near future. Reappointments will be coming up in February of 2019. W. Hardeman and E. Flores will both be completing their 3rd team in February. D. Villagran, G. Bryant and E. Bell will all be up for reappointment in February. All except E. Bell have accepted to continue in the committee. The representing committee spots that will be vacant after February are 4 in Community at Large representatives and 2 in Direct Service Agency representatives. B.Update on FY 2019 Elderly Nutrition Program Grant L. Oliver informed members of the Elderly nutrition program received a confirmation to additional monies to the grant at the end of FY’18. The increase is expected to take effect in FY’19. C.Update on Meals for Veteran’s Program L. Oliver shared the Meals for Veterans – Honor Veteran Now program that will be providing funding for both home delivered meals and congregate meals for disabled veterans. A referral will be completed by the Veterans Now program and the Nutrition Education Service center will deliver the meals. No waiting list is required, clients will need to go through the Veteran’s Program to be placed on the program. Each referral is valid for 3-6 months on the program for all disabled veterans, regardless of age. ►Old Business A.None ►LCSS Subcommittee Session/Project Status Report A.Special Events – G. Bryant reviewed the end events on the special event calendar for 2018. The upcoming event to focus on is the Mardi Gras event, more details to come at next month’s meeting. B.Program Evaluation – M. Hansen reviewed the survey toolset provided by L. Oliver and will share with the subcommittee to review at the January meeting for edit details. W. Hardeman made contact with T. Chadden on reports of bad comment card reviews and simply requested the stewed tomatoes be replaced with a more healthier food item. Comment cards from Broadmoor center mentioned bad restrooms and poor activity programs during the month of November. B. DeLeon is aware of the restroom issue and has since then been fixed due to a center member urinating on the floor. J. Meehleib requested of all centers to submit comment cards on a regular basis and not just 2 to 3 centers. M. Hansen lastly added once the survey toolset is drafted, a copy will be sent to B. DeLeon for her input as well. 2 C. Program Operations – Program Operations committee did not meet. An update will be provided at the January meeting. D. Fund Development – L. Oliver shared the submission for the Share the Love – Subaru event which started on November 16th and will run through the month of December. Subaru dealership is currently under new management. L. Oliver reached out to the area manager and they are interested in helping to deliver meals to homebound clients. An event has been set on December 14th at 10AM for Subaru to help deliver. LCSS members are also invited to join the event to help deliver meals on this day. A collateral distribution will take place at the first floor of City Hall at 1:30PM. Information for the Share the love event will be handed out while also serving popcorn to attract persons. On December 22nd at 10AM the Share the Love Fill the Trunk event will take place at the central kitchen for donations of lap blankets. Lap blankets will later be delivered to clients on the Meals on Wheels program. Last year the Elderly Nutrition Program received a $6000 grant for getting involved in the Subaru Share the Love Event. ►SCS Division program updates A. Superintendent’s Report – L. Oliver shared the recent event hosted by the Parks and Recreation Department to acknowledge department wide volunteers. One of the five awards were awarded to the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church for their contribution in the past 7 years of donating towards the local meals on wheels program. One thousand dollars is kindly donated every year. A member of the Lindale Center, Jimmy Pasedermy, was also awarded the Community Volunteer of the year during the event for continuing to dedicate all his time to the senior center in keeping the center in tip top shape. A 3rd quarter report will be reported at the January meeting. B. Senior Center Ops – See attachment for review of general highlights and center operations that B. Deleon provided for the committee during the meeting. R. Puente will now be overseeing the recreation and senior center facility maintenance staff. She visited sites and created a check list for custodians to help improve the overall assignments at all sites. Each custodian will oversee two sites, one full time site and one-part time site. No custodians will be asked to substitute drive for the kitchen as changes are being made. Changes will take effect by December 12th. C. Elderly Nutrition Program – All items already covered in other areas of the agenda. ►Items for next Agenda A. Acknowledgment of Texas A&M Students for the Giving Tuesday event (J. Meehleib) B.
