NEW BUSINESS:
Alan Bligh proposed a plan to develop an Insurance Counseling Program to educate
senior center members about health insurance. Mr. Bligh presented a brief overview of
the program. He explained that volunteers from legitimate insurance companies would be
scheduled to come to the center and review individual coverage plans. They would then
offer recommendations based on their findings. In many cases, individuals have excess
coverage and/or are paying for insurance even though they are Medicaid eligible. Mr.

Bligh noted that volunteers would be screened very carefully before the project
commenced. Ms. Munoz clarified that the Benefits Counselors currently provide this
type of service, in addition to comprehensive social service issues on an individual client
basis. LCSS member, Roland Medrano stated that he would like to include a session on
available assistance offered through the Nueces County Department of Human Services.
