Miltan Martiz conducted roll call with the following members absent: Mary Allen, Lupita Jimenez and Guy Williams. MINUTES The committee members did not have the opportunity to review the March meeting minutes, therefore, with the consensus of the committee this item was tabled for the June meeting. COMMITTEE REPORTS PROGRAM OPERATIONS—The committee did not meet. PROGRAM EVALUATION Donna Cisneros reported that a total of 16 comment cards were received and 11 comments indicated that the food was good and 5 comments indicated that the food was fair. In accordance with grant requirements the Senior Companion Program will be presenting two survey tools for annual review and approval to conduct the program's evaluations. FUNDING AND RESOURCE Marion Ball provided a treasurer's report on the following events: ➢ Casino Night - $501.48 Balance > Holiday Dinner- $1,389.19 Balance > Senior Pageant- $2,500.38 Balance ➢ Shred-A-Thon - $15.00 Balance Si PALS - $20,976.69 Balance SPECIAL EVENTS The subcommittee will set up a meeting date to discuss if they will be hosting the 2007 Casino Night event. A proposal will be presented to the committee at next month's meeting. Furthermore, a brief discussion was also held regarding the 2007 Holiday Dinner. The committee will be considering alternative options for funding this year's event. Elsa Munoz announced that Sonia Garza, Deborah Henry and Mary Ann Mondragon have been working on the Ms. Coastal Bend Senior Pageant float that will be featured at the Buc Parade on Saturday, May 5th. Dolores Savage will be representing the Coastal Bend at the Ms. Texas Senior Pageant in Plano, Texas. The queen will be receiving $500.00 to be used towards her expenses on the trip. In gearing for the 2008 Ms. Coastal Bend Senior Pageant the planning committee included an application in this year's event program to start recruiting contestants early. SCANNED • `r tied PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS Elsa Munoz announced that May is Older Americans Month and in conjunction with the event the division will be hosting the Coastal Bend Senior Fitness Day on May 30,2007 at Roy Miller High School from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The event will include chair volleyball, a general assembly featuring health topics, a fun walk and exhibitors. A program lunch will also be provided for those in attendance. Guests under 60 may purchase a meal at a cost of$3.75. Ms. Munoz stated that this event is to educate and raise awareness in the community. ➢ RSVP& SCP—Ms. Munoz announced that both programs recently sponsored a Volunteer Recruitment, Retention and Recognition trip to Lake Charles, Louisiana on April 14`h and 15`h. The trip was a success and staff met one on one with several volunteers to get their feedback regarding the trip. There is a split decision on making a return trip to L'Auberge de Lac in Lake Charles or return to Coushatta in Kinder, Louisiana. The Senior Corp Recognition was an astounding success. Volunteers shared very positive comments about the event. They really enjoyed the meal and the entertainment. Elsa Munoz congratulated Tina Belock,Ninfa Chavera and Linda Ramirez for their hard work and dedication toward this year's volunteer recognition. Ms. Apolonia Cantu inquired about the nomination process for the awards categories. She noted that the majority of volunteers were from the Foster Grandparent and RSVP programs. She expressed concern about the limited number of nominees from the Senior Companion Program Volunteers. Ninfa reviewed a detailed explanation of the judging process. ➢ NESC—Leticia Ochoa, AIC Nutrition Coordination provided the following Program Performance Date Report as follows: Cl —48.43% C2—42.59% Title XX -47% Star Plus (Community Based Alternative Program) - 66% exceeding contract Benefits Counseling—31% looking at extensive outreach projects to meet contract Ms. Ochoa conducted a site monitor visit at the Oveal Williams Senior Center and extended her thanks to Ms. Sylvia Oliver for a great job. Ms. Ochoa also congratulated Mrs. Evila Salinas for her write up regarding the Broadmoor Senior Center in the Amanda III Resident Assocation. NEW BUSINESS Elsa Munoz reported that currently Lisa Oliver, Senior Services Supervisor is working on finalizing the numbers for the 2008 City budget. The general fund allocation to support the senior centers will not be increasing causing staff to reevaluate areas for cost cutting. For example: food handler's cards were paid at 50% at participants cost and 50% at the division's cost now participants will incur 100% of the cost. Current vacancies will not be filled. When the numbers are finalized a copy of the newly adopted budget will be presented at a future meeting. IMO ‘110 Ms. Munoz additionally announced that the 2007 CDBG expansion of Broadmoor Senior Center did not make the final listing and is recommending that senior center participants and members of the Leadership Committee for Senior Services provided their recommends to the City. Barbara Deguzis announced to the committee her resignation and stated that Kathy Huron will move into the Chairperson position according to the by-laws. After a brief discussion regarding the Vice-Chairperson's position it was noted that it be tabled for next month's meeting. Roland Medrano nominated Guy Williams and other nominees were Alan Bligh and Judy McNamara. There being no further business,the meeting was adjourned.
