PP-Consider Committee Member Attendance Issues
►MINUTES
Committee members reviewed the June 2009 meeting minutes. Vicki Garza reported there was a
correction which was that she called roll not Ms. Medina and also they reviewed the May meeting
minutes not the June minutes. Ms. Garza asked for clarification on a comment that was made by Elsa
Munoz at the previous meeting regarding Mrs. Rabinowitz interest in the committee. Ms. Munoz
stated she called Mrs. Rabinowitz to see if Mr. Rabinowitz would be attending the meeting and if he
was still interested in the committee since he had not shown up for a meeting and she advised her
husband had been away on business but would have him contact us once he was available but she
was still interest in becoming a member if there was a vacancy. Under the Funding and Special
Events Subcommittee report she wanted to know who SCS Catering Service Unit was that would be
hosting the Hot Dog Social Party for the Senior Center who sold the most tickets for the Turkey Leg
Sale. Ms. Munoz stated it was Senior Community Services Catering Service Unit which was a unit
that was set up due to popular request in catering. Sherri Darveux made a motion to approve the
minutes as amended. Miltan Martiz seconded the motion and it was unanimously approved.

Mr. Ramsey stated they further discussed a standardized location to submit in the Comment Cards at
senior centers. It was further suggest they place the comment cards in several locations as well as
place the box in the same spot at all locations. Ms. Darveaux suggested that the various locations of
the comment cards be posted on each box.
Ms. Garza asked if the problem at Greenwood had been addressed. Mr. Ramsey stated it is still
being worked on, but no action had been taken yet.
Funding/Special Events
Ms. Munoz thanked the LCSS Committee for all their efforts to make the Community Bazaar such a
success. She also stated that she had not seen a leadership like that in many years and is very
pleased that because everyone on the committee was willing to help in one way or another which
helped to motivate staff to help with this event.
Ms. Huerta reported $4,584.40 was the grand total for the Community Bazaar event, but three site
councils have not turned in their$25.00 donation. Ms. Huerta also mentioned that HEB donated
paper goods that day in support of the event. The Hot Dog Social for the Top 3 centers who sold the
most Turkey Leg tickets will be held on Friday, July 31, 2009 from 3 p.m. —6 p.m. at Lindale Senior
Center. Lindale Senior Center sold 121 tickets, Broadmoor Senior Center sold 80 tickets and Oveal
Williams Senior Center sold 60 tickets. Leticia Ochoa stated that the Hot Dog Social was suppose to
be only for the highest ticket selling center, but because Broadmoor is such a small center and had a
great ticket sale and Oveal Williams came in third with highest sales it was decided to extend
incentive to the top 3 winners. Leticia also announced that the Hot Dog Social had also been
upgraded to a Chicken Dinner with all the trimmings. Over 600 turkey legs were sold at the
Community Bazaar.
Ms. Huerta stated she is working on getting a little over$5,000.00 donated to help cover the rest of
the cost for the Holiday Dinner. Ms. Huerta also expressed her appreciation to everyone who helped
with the Community Bazaar Event. Mr. Ramsey asked if letters of appreciation had been sent out to
sponsors and or people who helped sell tickets. All thank you letters had already been sent out by
staff.
Program Operations
Vicki Garza reported the subcommittee did not meet due to lack of quorum.

Unfinished Business: None
►New Business:
Ms. Munoz advised the Committee of their options regarding the Review and Endorsement of new
LCSS members, which are to vote on vacancies now, table that item and recommend a committee to
review the biographical information. Mr. Ramsey stated there was a suggestion that the committee
interview the prospective members instead of just reading their information. Ms. Miltan wanted to
clarify that action would be taken on July 27, 2009 council meeting if the committee were to appoint
someone today. Mr. Ramsey suggested voting on the 3 vacancies that have applicants and to table
the Senior Companion Program Representative to take action at the next LCSS Meeting.

'Review and Endorse new LCSS members:
LCSS members reviewed the biographical information forms for the LCSS Advisory Committee
vacancies. Members were issued a ballot and were instructed to vote for one (1) Direct Service
Agency Representative, one (1) Senior Center Representative and one (1) Community at Large
Representative. The ballots were tabulated and the LCSS endorsements are as follows: Direct
Service Agency Representative: Lindsay Edwards, Senior Center Representative: Patricia Byrd and
Community at Large Representative: Marilyn J. Upmanynu. There were no Senior Companion
Representative Biographical Information forms submitted, therefore, this category will remain vacant.
Ms. Munoz explained that it would require a City Ordinance change to remove the Retired Senior
Volunteer Program Representative and the Senior Companion Program Representative slots on
LCSS because both programs each have an Advisory Committee now. Mr. Ramsey motioned to have
those designations changed and Ms. Huerta seconded. Ms. Miltan asked what would happen to the
LCSS Members who are currently serving in those designations. Ms. Munoz mentioned the
designations could be reassigned to Community at Large Representative or Direct Service Agency
Representative, or even create a new designation. Mr. Ramsey withdrew his motion and decided to
table the issue to take action at the next LCSS meeting.
►Identity Items to be placed on Next Agenda:
• Re-designation of Retired Senior Volunteer Program Representative and Senior Companion
