Ms. Martiz reported that one of the comment cards mentioned that the Ethel Eyerly Senior Center needs more toilets for their restroom facilities. Lisa Oliver advised that this issue has been on the Senior Community Services "Wish List" for about eight to ten years. However, due to funding limitations the project is currently on hold. Ms. Martiz stated that another concern was the parking lot at the Garden Senior Center. Ms. Oliver reported that she will follow up on the work order that had been submitted to complete the repair work. Ms. Martiz expressed her concern about an incident which occurred at the Northwest Senior Center. The comment card reveals that on August 28, 2009, a person was still finishing their meal, when two volunteers began wiping the table with bleach. The individual was upset because she had not finished her meal and was forced to stop eating because they had begun cleaning up. Elsa Munoz announced that she would like to follow up with that particular individual to identify the volunteers. Staff must provide training to the volunteers to prevent this from occurring in the future. Ms. Martiz asked if there is a State or City mandate which stipulates that senior center members are not to take food home from the center. She shared that there was one incident involving an RSVP volunteer who was rude to a member because they caught the member trying to take some food home with them. The volunteer stated that they could not take food home and could get kicked out of the center for doing that. Ms. Munoz confirmed that it is a Texas Administrative Code Standard that food is not to be taken out of the senior centers and clarified that only fresh fruit can be taken home. Ms. Munoz expressed that she would like to know who the volunteer involved was so that this concern can be addressed. Funding/Special Events Monica Escamilla, Oveal Williams Senior Center Supervisor, reported that the LCSS Meet& Greet Social would be held on October 8, 2009. The event will be held at 5:30 p.m. the Heritage Park at the Galvan House. Corpus Christi Catering will be charging $175.00 to host the cash bar. Ms. Escamilla stated that each committee member will be asked to sell five tickets for the event. An event flyer will be emailed to each member so they can promote the event to interested individuals. Ms. Escamilla reported that many sponsor packets have been distributed to several Home Health Agencies. Lindsey Edwards has been essential in securing sponsors and in marketing the event. Program Operations Dotson Lewis reported that the draft copy of the Standardized Senior Center By-Laws has been completed and will be distributed to all members for feedback and input. Ms. Oliver stated that Patricia Byrd had completed the Senior Center Site Council Accounting Procedure Template and will 2 be coordinating an orientafionTor these new procedures with all the sitteCouncils. Ms. Munoz stated there are many prospective members who have submitted their biographical forms to the City. All of these individuals are eligible under the Community At Large vacancy designation, however, there are none for the Senior Companion Volunteer Representative vacancy. Ms. Munoz also advised that staff is in the process of submitting an ordinance change for the SCP and RSVP designations as previously approved at the last meeting. Mr. Lewis recommends that the LCSS Vacancy issue be tabled for next month's agenda because a quorum was lost due to members leaving before the meeting was adjourned.
