Leadership Committee for Senior Services
Meeting Minutes

'Roll Call
Roll call was conducted by Vicki Garza. Sherri Darveaux, Cecilia Huerta, Theresa Swirenko and
Marylin Upmanyu were absent.
►Consider Committee Member Attendance Issues
Vicki Garza asked that the City Secretary's Office be notified of Marylin Upmanyu's fourth absence
from this committee.
Ms. Garza questioned why some appointed members show up for one meeting and do not return.
Adelfa Martinez stated maybe after attending one of the meetings they decided that this is not
something they wish to pursue. Patricia Byrd recommended we talk to some of the members that
dropped out why they did not return to this committee. Lindsey Edwards recommend that we contact
the prospective members to attend a meeting and verify that they would be interested in serving on
this committee before we recommend someone to the City Council for endorsement. Ms. Garza
volunteered to personally contact each prospective member to invite them to attend a meeting. Elsa
Munoz suggested possibly forming a subcommittee that would go out and do active recruiting instead
of waiting for people to apply or possibly doing both active recruiting and contacting prospective
members to attend a meeting. Mr. Lewis asked if anyone else would be interested in participating in
this new subcommittee other than Vicki Garza. Patricia Byrd and Adelfa Martinez volunteered to also
serve on the subcommittee.
►New Business:
Mr. Lewis asked all Committee Members to review the applicants to fill the one (1) Direct Service
Agency Representative vacancy. Lindsey Edwards motioned to recommend the following applicants
in the following order to the City Council: First Choice: Maria Clarissa Lopez, Second Choice:
Carmela Quintanilla, Third Choice: Wesley Sanders, Fourth Choice: Ronald Moore and Fifth Choice:
Terence Klinger. Martinez second the motion and was unanimously approved.
Vicki Garza motioned to have the LCSS Retreat for three (3) hours on Tuesday, January 12, 2009
from 2:00 p.m. —5:00 p.m. at the Lindale Senior Center. Miltan Martiz second the motion and it was
unanimously approved.
Lindsey Edwards motioned to cancel the scheduled LCSS Meeting on Thursday, January 7, 2009 to
be replaced by the LCSS Retreat. Ms. Garza second the motion and it was unanimously approved.
lo-SCS Division Program Report:
Ms. Munoz stated this report will be sent via email to all members. Ms. Munoz did report that the 27th
Annual Holiday Dinner will be a low-key dinner. We did not receive the turkey from the Food Bank as
planned so turkey breast will be served. The deadline to register for the Holiday Dinner is Friday,
December 11, 2009. Tickets will be issued the week of the holiday dinner and tickets will not be
replaced at the door the day of the event. Ms. Munoz stated that seating will designated for each
senior center.
