Keys Laura Garcia, Branch Services Manager Larry Jordan Michelle Balis, Branch Manager James Martin Sylvia Sanchez, Recording Secretary Lucy McCracken Ella Prichard Natalie Rogen Dr. Stuart Elovitz MEMBERS ABSENT: Dr. Mary Jane Garza Ella Prichard CALL TO ORDER Michael Flores called the meeting to order at 1:20 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion for approval of the minutes of February 8, 2011 was made by Mr. Keys and seconded by Mr. Jordan, with the following change: Loan Star Grant. Motion passed unanimously. Presentation on Wal-Mart Project Dan McGinn, Development Services Senior Project Manager, stated that the City retained access easements for Carmel Parkway, which means that the public will always have access from between Staples and Gollihar. The schedule for temporary closure at each side of Cannel Pkwy will be approximately three weeks. The contractor will provide temporary access to the library parking lot during the temporary closure. Estimate date for the completion of the entire project will be the first week of October. Staples Street construction will begin at the end of April. Staples Street is a City project that will begin at Weber Road and end at Airline Street. Director's Report Mr. Canales stated that the City has approximately a $11.5 million shortfall. He expects to propose large cuts for the library. Mr. Canales stated that the bids came in significantly higher than the architect's estimate cost for the Greenwood Project. The low bid was 27%higher than the architect's estimate. Two areas to be reconsidered are the parking lot and the roof. Planning Process Committee The committee met two weeks ago. The survey questionnaire was reviewed and staff will continue to distribute the survey throughout the community. The next scheduled meeting will be on the 21" at 3:30 p.m. SCANNED Friends of the Library Mrs. Rogen reported that membership renewals have been coming in. Friends budget is also short, there will continue supporting the Children's Book Festival and Summer Reading Program. The Friends shortfall is approximately$1,700.
