HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Library Board - 11/04/2014 Library Board Meeting Minutes November 4, 2014 Members Present: John Keys, Diana Broyles, Sue Donahoe, Dr. Stuart Elovitz, Natalie Rogen and Brian Solarek Members Absent: Julia Stafford, Abigail Bair, and Rachel Buck Staff Present: Laura Z. Garcia, Library Director and Sylvia Sanchez, Secretary Call to Order: John Keys called the meeting to order at 10:30 a.m. Approval of Minutes Motion for approval of the October minutes was made by Natalie Rogen and seconded by Sue Donahoe. Motion passed unanimously. Director's Report Mrs. Garcia introduced Annika Gunning, Project Manager for the Plan CC Comprehensive Plan 2035 project. Ms. Gunning provided a brief overview of the Plan and how it will be used to guide the future economic and physical development of Corpus Christi. She stated that several public meetings will be held throughout the City, some will be at library locations. Plan CC documents are available at www.cctexas.com and print material is available at each of the library locations. Mrs. Garcia reported that staff has been trained on the use of the mobile planetarium equipment. This month the Caller Times article focused on the Harte Library. The Robert D. Campbell Center dedication will be held Saturday, November 29, at 1 p.m. at McDonald Library. The Center will provide work related information to job seekers as part of a partnership with Work Force Solutions. They are also providing a workstation setup at Harte and Hopkins Library.The library will be notified by November 15 if we will receive an Inter Library Loan reimbursement check. The recommendation will be to use the funds to purchase digital microfiche equipment. The current equipment in Local History is obsolete, currently only one machine is working. Mrs. Garcia reported that AAUW will have their book sale on November 13—November 15 at Neyland Library, 10 am—5:30 p.m. Friends Report Mrs. Rogen reported that the Friends Annual Meeting will be held on January 22, 2015 at the Neyland Library, right before the Pinocchio puppet show. The November meeting will be held on the 111h instead of the 25th. The membership flyer will be mailed out in December. During December PayPal will match 1%of each online donation. New Business Sue Donahoe reported that another Flash Fiction program is scheduled at 4 p.m. today at Harte Library. Ms. Donahoe inquired if a Flash Fiction program for 21 years old and older can be scheduled after December 9, at any of the libraries. Mrs. Garcia stated she will meet with Michelle Balis, Neyland Library Branch Manager, and report back to Ms. Donahoe. A motion was made by Natalie Rogen and seconded by Sue Donahoe to excuse Julia Stafford from October's meeting. Motion passed unanimously. Public Comment None. Meeting adjourned at 11:07 a.m.
